Anyone else only smoke cigarettes when they are drinking alcohol?

@MRS-K:  I quit smoking almost ten years ago but when I drink (which is rarely), I find myself wanting to smoke SO bad. It’s weird since it isn’t like I was a heavy smoker/drinker even when I did smoke. Maybe it’s that the alcohol dulls my judgement a bit?

Me! Me! I ‘quit’ smoking over 6 years ago, but will have a cig when I am out drinking. Which is rarely, maybe once every four months? I am old and antisocial- lol.

Cigs are yuk without a beverage though.

Yep. I used to smoke all the time, but now it’s probably anywhere from a couple of times a week to once a fortnight when I’ll have a drink. Lately it’s been a couple of times a week because we just got married and have been on our honeymoon, so I’ve been drinking a little more.

This is how it started though, I’d be a social smoker for a while and then I’d want to smoke all the time. I can actually see myself going down that path again if I’m not careful.

@MRS-K:  I’m sorry about your mom 🙁 Yes, you will kick the habit for good. Be kind to yourself and keep working on it. You’re doing great so far!

@MRS-K:  Almost every single person I know who smokes regularly started as someone who just had a cig every so often when they were drinking.

@MRS-K:  my husband does this.  I HATE IT!  Ugh.  Oh well, at least he doesn’t smoke more than that, I guess.

I know people who do this, but I don’t.  I have asthma, so smoking anything makes my trachea hurt. :S

@MRS-K:  Me too!! I hate that I do it but when I start getting a buzz I can’t say no.

Luckily for me, it is only when I am around smokers. If I drink without smokers I don’t crave it. Also lucky that nearly all of my friends are non smokers so it doesn’t happen too often

I used to do this in my early-mid 20s, but quit in late 20s, bc (in addition to cancer) aging became a concern. I still drink on the weekends, but don’t smoke nor have the urge to smoke.

Ah yes…my old vice.  I used to say I was “just a social smoker” and swore I was not addicted.  Problem was, the two things were tied together, so anytime I was out and had a drink, I smoked. I was addicted, and when I added up cigarettes over a month, it was more than just a social thing for me.  AND, I had no motivation to quit, because another weekend would roll around and I would have a few more.  I realized I was never going to be able to smoke occasionally, and I hated smoking anyway!

Sigh…so I went cold turkey and have not smoked since.  I had to stay out of bars and away from my friends who smoked for about a month.  🙂
