Ah! I have six months left, and up until now my wedding has been an abstract vision in my head. But now I'm supposed to focus on the "details."

Can you guys help me come up with a list of "details" I should be preparing to have? Here are some of the things I'm thinking of, many of which I'll need to make or prepare myself:

    - place cards

    - guest book & guest book area

    - menus/programs (we are not having these)

    - gift table area/card box etc.

    - cake topper, decorations for cake table

    - favors (we are not having these either)

    - dessert bar/cookie bar/etc.

    - broom (we are going to jump it)

    - candles

    - something to hold the rings

What else? Let's make a list!

I was... so I cut most of them out! I heart simple :D As a result, I can't add to the list (but do wish you luck with coming to terms with your tasks!).

Yes!  This is so me right now, and with less than 3 months ago, these are the little things that keep going round and round in my mind.  I'm beginning to wonder if I can even have all the things I want done.  So if you can get started asap.

@Mitla - Which of those details are you really excited about?  I say do the ones that really mean something to you, and skip the rest.  And don't underestimate the power of a good color printer.  I did most of my paper products on my parent's color printer, and it saved me tons of time.

    music perhaps?

since you are having place cards, are you having a poster or some type of format that shows guests where they are sitting?

have you spoken with the caterer and gotten the menu, etc?  what about a tipping schedule are you strictly focused on the wedding details or the details that make the day run smoother?

i am doing a ring bowl (sort of like the ones that paloma's nest does) to hold the rings, and then i will be using them later to hold the ring while i do dishes and wash my face etc.

Seriously, I don't know yet. I definitely don't plan to do all of them, I just want to know which ones there are, so I'll know which things to cut and which things are essential.

Most important to me at the moment are the broom, the candles (just a bunch of votives), and the place cards. We're definitely planning to eliminate favors, menus, and programs, and the dessert bar.

@crebre: Whoops! I meant to say "escort cards," the kind that just say your table number. No place cards. That would be a nightmare!

Yes, music etc. but I was thinking more in terms of just reception-y type details.

missplaner you took the words right out of my mouth... FI and I got into a little tiff tonight over the color of an invitation mat.  he said it was "stupid" to obsess over getting it perfect and I flipped out and stomped out of the room.  it was mean of him to say that, but I've got to admit he's kind of right.  I think I need some planning detox for a few days, I'm driving both of us nuts.

*hugs* I feel you on that one! I'm so overwhelmed by the little things that I'm totally ignoring the big things!

I am overwhelmed.  I just attended a family event this past weekend where I met many of FI's family friends (most of whom I'd not met before but are invited to our wedding) and so many of them were like "You guys are all ready to go, right?  Just waiting until June to roll around?"  Haha, by the end of the weaekend I was like, "Oh yeah,  just counting down the days at this point." HAHA, Yeah Right!

Details that have me rolling a to-do list are:

    DJ Set List

Ceremony Logistics (still don't know what song to play when the bridal party enters!!!)

Ceremony Order (unity candle?  sand?  tasting cup?..UGH, I DON't KNOW!)

Memorial Table for those not with us

    Family photo wall

    Details, Details, Details.....

I don't even *like* the word details, I've heard it so much and I keep reading the other wedding blogs, how they swoon over "details." I think the word should be replaced. How about... "minutiae." Hehe :)

Oh, another detail little thing to add to the list... I love having a wreath on the door, I want to make a floral one for the week we get married, as lots of people will be in & out of our house. I will use the same flowers that I use to decorate the broom.

Otherwise, I'm the opposite of KMSull... I just keep seeing the overall picture (yay, we're getting married, let's have a great time la la la) and have a resistance to all these little things.
