My fiance proposed to me on Christmas Eve. At the time we knew we wanted to be married sometime in the summer, after he graduates (master’s degree) in May.
We eventually decided on June 7th because we are in Texas and planning on having the ceremony and reception at my parent’s new house (5 acre lot in the country) and didn’t want it to be TOO hot!
Anyone else in a similar situation and realize just how soon everything is?
I honestly just realized my wedding is 4.5 months away and I don’t even have my dress ordered – which is scaring me a lot. I am giving the dressmaker I’m working with til end of day tomorrow to get back with me before I do something else. I originally contacted her on Jan. 16th and it is taking way too long to get this going!
I’m trying not to get stressed out but its been tough!

Congrats on the recent engagement!
Don’t stress about it! I’m pretty sure you will be able to get everything done in time, but all you have to do is concentrate on getting them done soon! You have the most stressful part done and that is to find a venue and ceremony space in that time crunch! You’re golden. Just breath and enjoy this process!

I was in this situation last year. I got engaged on December 10th and married on May 30th.
In my opinion, having a short engagement is the best. It forces you to make decisions and move forward, rather than having too much time to obsess on small details. Make sure that you and your FI make a list of the things that are most important to you for the wedding and focus your energy on those. Cut out as many unnecessary details as you can. Then get on to the fun business of being married!
In my case, I bought a dress off the rack rather than ordering, which would have been really stressful. Honestly, there was SO MUCH selection just with off the rack dresses that I was happy not to have to deal with choosing from among other options. (Of course, I live in a big city, maybe you don’t.) We also got my sister’s bridesmaid dress from a normal store rather than a bridal store. So much easier.

@mjoy79: Congratz!! Although my engagement has been 16 months, I didn’t really do any serious plans (except booking the venue) until the end of last year 🙂
So a longer engagement doesn’t exactly mean more quality planning. Good luck and happy planning!

I was engaged the last week of November and we’re getting married June 28th. I’m actually glad its really soon because I don’t really understand long engagements. Also, I’m soooo bored already and want it to be over. The waiting is killing me. Within a month all my major venders were booked and the weekend after my proposal I’d already purchased a dress. Now I keep making excuses to purchase more things.

I hate that I couldn’t get the photographer I wanted because she was already booked. I wasn’t surprised though – any June date would be risky.
But I did get another photographer that I love so no worries there!
Also having the venue decision right off the bat taken care of has been a relief.
We ended up deciding to skip the save the dates since we will be sending invites in a couple of months anyway. We will also send announcments out as well to those that are out of town but don’t necessarily want to invite to our backyard shindig 🙂

YES! Got engaged weekend before Thanksgiving, getting married June 21st!
Purposfuly didn’t start planning till after the holidays just so we could enjoy them. Actually we didn’t announce our engagement publically (FB) till after Thanksgiving with the family.
Wanted a short engagement so we would have less time to agonize!!! And I am loving it! Other than some vendors judging us for not having our shit together. Oh well, if someone is not helpful or whatever, we just don’t use them!!!

Yup! Engaged at Christmas, getting married June 21! Bought my dress the day after Christmas and picked it up this past weekend. Venue is set (and awesome) and things are chugging right along 🙂

Just breathe, you can do this! You are exactly a year behind me, I was engaged Christmas two years ago and married June last year. It can be done 🙂
I bought my dress as a sample gown, so I din’t have to worry about the dress making process time. Going home that day with a dress in my car was awesome! Of course, an off the rack dress required a bit of TLC, but the seamstress was great!

Just got engaged mid- January and getting married June 21. I feel like it’s plenty of time. Neither of us wanted a very long engagement.

I got engaged December 28th and am getting married June 22nd. Thank goodness there are others like me! It’s so crazy to plan, I’m way over my head.
