I can barely keep my gosh dang eyes open. I get 8+ hours of sleep, eat tons of protein, drink over 100 oz of water a day and I am still crazy tired… and I’m only a little under 5 weeks pregnant!
Anyone else with me or have any other tips on how to not want to crawl under your desk and go to sleep? : D

The exhaustion in the first trimester is terrible. I did on occasion close my door and take a cat nap on the floor, but I would always wake up feeling sick so no more of that. I tried a can of caffeine free coke every afternoon for the sugar and it helped a little bit.

YES. Just a little over 5 weeks and I’ve been napping almost every day for a week, then sleeping 10+ hours a night. I’m not giving up caffeine, I only have one cup of drip coffee at home, and a 1-shot latte and work and I need it!

I had to take naps at work. I had no idea it would be so exhausting!

I was beyond tired my first tri. I felt like a zombie most days and weekends I spent on the couch. It gets better, I’m not 100% my normal self, 18w, but I function and I can do a full day. Early on I would work, pass out at for a minute at my desk and go to sleep as soon as I got home.

I had never felt exhaustion like I did in the first trimester. Nothing anyone tells you prepares you for it!
Though…I have to say, now that I’m in my third trimester, I’m still pretty exhausted. This has to do more with the fact that I’m having trouble sleeping than getting enough sleep at night and just being plain exhausted during the day like the first trimester. Wishing you all speedy first trimesters and energetic second trimesters!

@2PeasinaPod: I’m 33-34 weeks right now and so exhausted. I slept well last night despite waking up my husband with snoring. He does it too though! I’m fighting to stay awake right now. I’m thinking that a chai latte might help get me through to tonight when we’re going to see a movie. I also get tired and sleepy after eating now too.

I try to get a nap in here and there, but it is difficult. I have been very restless. I get up about 6 times at night to walk around. I think I need to increase my exercise routine a bit and see if that helps…

I can totally relate! I literally spend every minute that I’m not at work in bed. TOday I took off, was going to make a sandwich, and fell asleep for four straight hours instead! It’s crazy.

@mixtapehearts: I do NOT like sleeping during the day. No offense to anyone else who enjoys cat napping or snoozing or whatever, but for me, I’ve woken up from a so called nap HOURS later, all disorientated and confused, and it’s been bloody well dark outside! lol so I do not like sleeping during the day, even when sick.
However. My first trimester, I was working 6 days straight, but the last 3 days of the week my shifts were only a maximum of 4hrs long. But I swear to god, even those little shifts would kill me. I would get home, and crash. Every. Single. Day. For literally my entire first tri! I couldnt function without my nap, and it didnt affect my sleep at night which I thought napping would do. I needed those naps, I figure that your baby is doing the most rapid growth it will ever do in that period, your body is under immense strain even if the bubba is only teeny, and sleep is where you replensih and rejuvinate. Therefore, naps = totally acceptable even for a non-believer like me 😉
Now I’m in my third trimester the tiredness has crept back in, and my DH and I argue about it daily. Because my stubborness to not nap has returned ha ha!

It takes a lot of energy to build a baby!
I also had extreme exhaustion in my first trimester. I had to sleep constantly, and it was such a fight to stay awake at work!
When we were at the IL’s one weekend, I was exhausted, sleeping on the couch and DH’s mom looked at him and said, “Look what you’ve done to her! poor thing!”
It does pass though. Seriously, that exhaustion for me was worse than the lack of sleep with a newborn!

I am exhausted down into my core today!! It’s only 10am and I’ve already taken a 20 minute nap!!!!!!

You scare me. I have been unable to get out of bed the last few days and haven’t felt like this since the winter months (when i was working long hours). FI has asked if i was sick i seriously would not move. The thought “maybe your pregnant” crossed my mind this morning. AHHHH lol.

I’ve been pregnant before and have never had this problem. I feel like the biggest whiner in the world for having such a noticeable reaction and change in myself so early on. I don’t actually get to nap, I work long hours and napping is frowned upon in the corporate world, haha.
