We are! My family has a condo in the Port Charlotte area of Florida, so we’ll be going down there for a week. We’re planning to go to St. Lucia or Anguilla for our 1-year anniversary. It just wasn’t do-able right now!

Wherever you are or wherever you go, YOU’RE MARRIED! You’ll have a blast.

We are doing a mini-moon, but will do a honeymoon later on in the year.  We haven’t decided on our mini-moon destination yet, but it will most likely be NY, Oregon Coast (our second home) or Vancouver Island (west coast side.)  It would just be too weird to go back to work on Monday!!

I was really wanting to go on a cruise. We COULD afford it (we got $8000 all together from both parents) BUT we wanted to put money in savings. Instead we are staying in a house up in breckenridge ski resort. It is really neat, we can litereally ski down the hill and be at our front porch. Plus, breckenridge has the cutest little mountain town. I would of rather stayed at Copper mountain, which is where we met, but we got such a good deal! Only $100 for 7 days at that house in Breck, I am really excited. (Plus we even have a hot tub on our deck)Oh, and we got the deal because FI’s mom cleans for the lady who owns the house. She only lives there part time, she is one of those rediculously rich people you hate and don’t understand how they can afford like 4 houses in beautiful places.

We did a mini-moon after our wedding, too. It was super relaxing and ended up being perfect. I just looked up your hotel and it’s gorgeous! It’s so cool you can bring your dog too!

I was actually in Ft. Lauderdale last week. They have great restaurants! We ate at Serafina, a tiny hole in the wall on the water and it was so delicious and YOLO was a really cool bar to go to.

We are also on budget constraints and will save the tropical getaway for hopefully our 1 year anniversary! Probably just go to the beach (NJ or MD or DE) for a few days just to get away. Also, I love the beach. LOVE it. My friends and I used to go to MD every summer. I know it’s nothing spectacular, but I am happy to just lay in the sun, splash a little and walk around and eat out at seafood restaurants like we don’t have at home. So, I am looking forward to it! Haven’t nailed down the details yet. I should possibly make a thread about this… thanks for reminding me! 🙂

Your place looks really nice, and how cool that your pup gets to go, too!

We’re planning a larger trip next year so right after the wedding we’re driving up the coast. I’m really looking forward to it though. I know it’ll be a blast!

We are doing a mini-moon too!  We are getting married near San Francisco so we rented a timeshare in Napa Valley for 4 days.  We’re just gonna drive an hour after our reception, cook our breakfast and lunches at the condo, and splurge on some dinners and wine-tastings.

My bf and I are doing a min-moon too!  We are going to drive about 2 hours away to stay in a tree-house for 2-3 nights.

Then on our one year we are going to Italy as our full honeymoon 🙂

Mainly we’re doing this because we’re trying to juggle new jobs, and asking for time off will not be easy.

We were goign to until his parents realized they were going to lose some of their time-share credits and just let us use those! So, we get to go to Mexico for a fraction of the price of staying in Texas! We were going to go to the Gaylord Texan for 3 days and have our Honeymoon next year, after we had saved up for it.

We are also mini-mooning.  We got engaged on a trip to Europe last sumer and we just can’t afford a big trip two years in a row — especially with a wedding mixed in there!  But we LOVE travel (it’s our theme) so I know we’ll be off somewhere in another year!

Our mini-moon locale is at a favorite place to go for our weekend trips: Duluth, MN.   THIS time, though, we’re going all out on accomodations.  I can’t wait!

@Ryansgirl: I agree, going back to work Monday would be too weird!

We had a semi-destination wedding in the Keys (we live in Fort Lauderdale) that lasted an entire weekend, so we did a mini-moon at the Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada for just two nights afterward. We’re planning a full honeymoon later this year with our honeymoon registry gifts. (We didn’t register for “stuff,” just a honeymoon fund.)

I’m not familiar with the resort you’re staying at, but I can recommend a restaurant that’s very close by – it’s called The Rendez-Vouz, on Oakland Park Blvd. Small French bistro/bakery – casual and inexpensive, and the food is great. I’ve only been for dinner, but I know they also serve breakfast and lunch.

Also, on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, I like Casablanca. Very romantic restaurant!

Close to where you’re staying, I can also recommend Charlie’s Crab (on the intracoastal waterway) and Cafe Martorano (excellent Italian – expensive – with a nightclub atmosphere). Both are more on the upscale side. On the other end of the spectrum, you’re not too far from the best sub shop ever – La Spada’s – which is in a quaint little beach town, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. There’s also a lively bar/restaurant there called Aruba’s (overlooks the beach, mid-priced).

If you’re into live music, check out who’s playing at the Dive Bar on A1A, just north of Oakland Park Blvd. It really is a dive, but they get great music most weekends.

Gosh, I’m getting a little carried away with advice you didn’t ask for… if you have any questions about the area, just ask! Enjoy your mini-moon!

We are thinking about doing one.  Since we will have 2 ceremonies/receptions in 2 different countries, the budget will be a big issue.  So we probably will go somewhere close (Block Island maybe) just to relax for a few days after the wedding.  So we can save the vacation days and money for the oversea trip.

That;s a great idea! My FH and I live in New Mexico and we’re driving up to Denver for a couple days. His favorite baseball team is playing up there that weekend so might as well make him happy in more ways than 1 🙂 Maybe when we’re old and gray we can take an extended honeymoon somewhere tropical. haha

Have Fun!!
