I've kind of been in awe of FI for the proactive interest he has taken in making sure that his gaming doesn't step on our quality time at all. He craves the unwinding period that he gets on the Xbox (and the computer) but I think he feels like he's endangering our relationship when he chooses to go on it instead of hanging with me. It's insanely sweet, and I actually find myself encouraging him to go ahead and do some gaming when I know he needs it. I mean, I love him terrifically, but I am capable of entertaining myself for an evening. :)
My fiance's Best Man (and BFF) lives in DC with his wife, one of my bridesmaids. The two of them (along with my also-non-local MOH) came to visit a couple of weekends ago so the girls could go dress shopping while the dudes did Manly Things. We headed off to many dress shops, and assumed the guys would go to a bar or something. We got home about 5 or 6 hours later, and the two of them had spent THE ENTIRE TIME sitting in our apartment playing some stupid XBox car racing game. Neither had showered, and they both had that glazed look you get after staring at the TV for hours and hours on end. Oh, and just FYI - my fiance refers to it as "The SexBox" - that bitch is totally his mistress! :)
Oh oh oh! redherring just reminded me of this wonderful set of photos from my cousins wedding.
My cousin's Best Man was taking pictures at the wedding, and got a good 9 or 10 of my brother and my cousin's BIL playing Mario Kart DS. There's all this stuff going on in the background, family photos, people dancing, wedding activities, and then there's my brother in his Groomsman suit/tux and cousin's BIL, oblivious to EVERYTHING.
It was hardcore.
Oh, Surkim, my FI just got borderlands last week. I think he beat it, though, because he got Dragon Age origins today. He wasn't a fan of CoD, or Assasin's creed. He finished mass effect super fast, too! WoW is still the main squeeze, though.
Just for the sake of fairness, I feel like I should add that when my FI isn't playing the XBox, I'm totally cheating on him with the new Super Mario Brothers game. I'm completely obsessed
@His Barista - THAT'S the name of the new game my FI's been playing! Borderlands! It's really freaky, 'cause we have surround sound and I always sit right next to one of the speakers and I keep hearing those freaky little creatures laughing right in my ear!
My guy's been cheating on me with Evony lately. It's massively annoying but has gotten better now that I have a laptop - I just cruise the 'net till he's updated his cities.
@amanda.lynn-it's getting a little scary how much we have in common. lol.
@His Barista - I know, it really is, lol! That's what I love about this place!
@Amanda.lynn-did you see how similar our e-rings are? It's pretty cool! Maybe we need to get the FI's on a game together. haha.
@His Barista - we totally should! FI is always looking for people to play with! And I did see how similar our rings are - it's pretty awesome!
Well my FI is completely bummed out because a few weeks ago his Xbox 360 died.. it got the red ring of death lights. I heard about it for a long time.. he curses at the commercials that show new xbox 360 games because he is so upset that his broke. He played Call of Duty also and talked on his crazy headset.. He now wants a PS3 for christmas.. we will see about that one..
@mallorynjmf-can't he send it out to get fixed? I've heard a lot of people do that, and I think it's under warranty. Of course the PS3 might be a good investment since it plays blue rays and all.
Luckily we game online together, but he is having an ongoing affair with Batman: Arkham Asylum! I may counter by taking up with Dragon Age: Origins.
@Serya - mine plays Evony too. *sigh* I call it an outlet for his more sadistic tendencies because he can crush the smaller cities..
Oh, and he's been asking for the new CoD since it came out, but I told him he can't buy any new games until Christmas. Maybe that's my outlet for my sadistic tendencies? :)
I'm late to the party, but he just got Modern Warfare this week and I've barely seen him since! Good thing I have a ton of school work to do this week so it's not like he's leaving me alone too much. And thankfully we're still in the early planning stages - not too much DIY yet - so he's not skipping out on wedding stuff, either.
It doesn't sound like very many people here play with your SOs - you guys should join in more! I totally love our xbox, we play together a lot and it's such a blast. I'm not nearly as good as my husband...except for at Left 4 Dead, I school him in the zombie killing for sure. Haven't gotten Modern Warfare yet though.
@Minneapolitan: I'm a total video game nerd - I have been since I was a kid - but I really, really hate guns. This shouldn't be a problem when they're digital, but for some reason, I've just never liked shooting games, they actually stress me out. Give me Mario and you won't see me for hours, though. :)
My FI has been playing that, along with some racing game that he just bought a $100 steering wheel for!
Though, I shouldn't complain because he did take some time to do some quests in WoW with me last night. ;)
And I totally agree with @teaparty ... I HATE shooty games! So SCARY!
I'll join the club!! My fi is addicted to Final Fantasy...he's gotten a lot better but we have had some serious talks about why he plays it so much. We try to divide up our time and I'm learning not to take it so personal when he plays.
Oh and the latest and greatest? A headset to go with it. Oy those boys talk to each other like 16 year old girls, lol.
My FI plays various computer games but it doesn't bother me. I use that time for myself. It's actually nice. I enjoy having my own time. And I also think it's healthy for couples to have some different interests. Spending 24/7 together is never a good thing.
Mine, but not as bad as it could be. He usually plays later at night when Im tired and on the couch reading or when I go to bed. So not a problem with me. Plus he plays online so he can play with my brother who just moved up to San Francisco so thats pretty cool.
Mine's a slut his go to girls are Magic, some roleplaying game on the computer like WOW. He has a new girl on the XBOX live that he talks to every night.. in our bedroom! ARGH I hate video games!
I walked out in a sexy piece and he is like.. hunny you're blocking my shot!
sigh
Oh goodness. You about scared the hell out of me again. I remember now this thread. (Wtf? Am I Yoda?) I got scared the first time and just got rescared. lol
I loose him to CoD all the time. We just got the new mario game for the Wii, so now at least there's a game we can both play. (I don't like killing games. I get flustered).
@50 I do too! He brings home all the "children games" as he calls them; and I'm happy as little clam. I hate the ones that kill, I loved Kirby, Flowers, Pikman and games like that. I stop playing them if they have me kill anything!
I did love the Burnout games those were fun.
Yay, more members in the "no-killing-games" club. Glad I'm not the only one who finds them stressful!
Ha...You did get me!
And for FH, it's Company of Heros. He has CoD 1, but not 2. Not yet, anyway
edit: I cheat on him with WeddingBee and Algerian Patience, though
