note: we are also looking to add some color with a bolero or jacket to make the look less bridal.
wow, thats a bridal gown... sorry. if you are ok with it though go for it - i know theres a few esty folks that make kick butt bolero jackets for a bit of spice:
That dress looks very bridal to me, but if you're ok with it, then so be it! :)
It's actually a BCBG formal gown and in person it looks much less bridal...the nude stands out a lot more than it does on the website.
Definitely not. I encouraged my mother to wear another "taboo" color--bright red, an off the shoulder style--but my mom would never wear white b/c she is old fashioned about stuff like that and would be upset if anyone felt she was wearing it maliciously. Even if YOU think it's ok, MOST of your guests will not think so and I know my mom personally would be really troubled if anyone had ill thoughts towards her otherwise good intentions.
I think champagne is a very common color, though, for MOB to wear.
I wasn't too worried about it, but now I wonder if I should be....my dress isn't simple in any way so I don't think it looks too bridal in comparison

I haven't seen my mother's dress yet, but she told me that it was creamy colored. Honestly, I'm not worried about it, and I think it's great that you're not worried about your mother's dress either. It's a gorgeous dress, by the way!
thanks for the input all....we have also talked about having the length shorten...do you think that this would make it less bridal?
I agree that it looks bridal from the picture. Adding color may help. I went to my cousins wedding a few years ago and the MOB wore a long Ivory dress that looked very elegant, BUT everyone was talking. I was like 14 so I didn't really understand, but the MOB's dress was the talk of the evening, people were just not happy about it. So even if you like it and your ok with it, you should prepare for some possible gossip!
I think it would look less bridal if it were shorter. Whatever you are comfortable with. It is your day!
I was comfortable with it, but now I worry what guests may think....do ya'll think it's really going to upset our guests?
I have seen a lot of MOBs wear white and no one had a problem with it. A lot of people that I know have the mentality that the MOB matches the bride (wears white, silver, champange) and the MOG matches the groom ( wears black, champange, other wedding accent color). As long as the MOB/MOG dress isn't more fancy that the bride's dress, then no one really cares (that I know of).
@trugem that was what was running through my head when we found her dress that it would compliment mine really well and didn't realize it was such a huge issue until I started this post....I could see it being a bit over the top if my dress were very simple, but since that is not the case I wouldn't think people would freak out.
if you arent upset by it, then your guests shouldnt be either. If you are worried I would suggest a colored jacket and if your mom is comfortable with it Shorten the dress so it is not floor length, that would help the look.
We were planning on adding a colored bolero or jacket like this and we had also though about shortening it (taking off the bottom two tiers)
probably something like this:
I love that dress, but it does look a bit bridal. Shortening it would definitely help!
Although, my mom is wearing champagne, so I can't really talk. :)
my mom is wearing a creamy white dress. It's knee-length. I don't mind one bit, it's the color she feels the prettiest in. I did wonder for a minute if ayone would think anything weird, but I don't even care if they do. I think either a bolero wit that dress or gettng it shortened would make it just right.
i think shortening it and adding a bolero would work wonders!
i do think if she wears it as is guests will talk or wonder if yall had bridezilla/momzilla moments or something?

Hey hive,
I know etiquette says the bride should be the only one wearing an ivory, white or champagne colored dress on the day of the wedding, but I am not one of those brides who cares too much about it and was delighted when we found my Mom a very pretty MOB dress in ivory with lace detail over nude. I am curious to see how many other brides have MOBs wearing white, ivory or champagne and would love to see pictures!
here's the dress she picked:
