Hi! YES. I know some people who haven't experienced this will probably be thinking what the heck....but I know how you feel! I forgot it was in there because the string actually broke off at some point (horrible $ tree tampons). I too noticed a strange awful smell and I made an appointment with the doctor and when she told me, I almost DIED. I couldn't believe that I had a tampon inside for like 4 days. I know this is TMI but I just wanted to make sure you knew that you are not alone. Anyways, make SURE to go to the doctor! I ended up having a yeast infection because of it and she gave me some antibiotics. MAKE SURE YOU GO. Just to be sure. Don't feel bad though, sometimes these things happen. Good luck!
I'm just in shock and awe. lol. I don't "do" tampons, so this has never happend to me, and i also can't imagine not knowing it was in. I'm very amused by this notion (not in a mean way, i assure you) Buy, yeah, i would def go to the Dr. and make sure everything is on the up and up.
I can't imagine myself forgetting for more than a day or two because I find the "taking a crap" muscles seem to always push tampons out...
I have forgotten them for a day or so though and it's always gross but I've never had issues afterwards.
Good luck to you.
PS. Is your WB name Jessica Wakefield because of Sweet Valley High?? If so.... AWESOME.
@JessicaWakefield: p.s. is that your real name or a sweet valley high reference? just curious as i was obsessed with the books when i was in elementary/high school
I've only forgotten for a day but I would go to the Dr. if I were you. All those toxic shock pamphlets make me nervous to even sleep with tampons.
I have! I was in so much pain and could not figure out why. I had to be taken to the Emergency Room because of it. Please go to the doctor and get it checked out! This is why I don't wear them anymore plus I really can't anymore because it hurts so bad when they are in, even the slender ones.
i cannot relate, i have a fear of them, sounds weird i know. but it is stories like this that confirm my fears. i suggest you go to the doctor just to be safe
hmm I have never expereienced this before.. Thats freaky tho. Now I can guarentee I never will because I will be super paranoid now.
Oh wow. I can't say I ever have. That's awful. You didn't feel the string when you wiped or anything? Wow.
This reminds me of a story in Tucker Max's book "I hope they serve beer in hell." The girl leaves her tampon in and forgets to take it out before sex. They have sex with the tampon inside of her, giving him really bad "road rash" on his dick (how could you NOT notice that?) he said he couldn't masturbate or have sex for a whole week lol.
thanks for the replies. i googled this online as well and found this has happened to quite a few people, so i don't feel so bad. everyone had the same conclusion, i should go to a doctor and they might prescribe me antibiotics! so i guess i will!
@bananejaune: @Lee_Ann: and yes, i was a HUGE sweet valley fan as well, so thats where my user name is from!
@firsttimemom: and no i never felt a string. i must have put another in which pushed this one back. so ya, i was lucky to have even found it last night!
Not the same, but once I forgot that I taken it OUT and thought that it was lost. I got scared.
@JessicaWakefield: OH MY GOD. That's 1000000x scarier. It was pushed up? That scares me. I didn't even know that could happen...
I put one in once when I already had one in, but I realized it right away. That freaked me out, I couldn't imagine ever leaving one in for a long period of time though, yikes! I wonder if it could have caused an infection and that's why it's smelly.
@mwitter80: No, it just smells because of everything that it's soaked up and how long it's been in there. Although of course you want to be very careful and watch any warning signs for TSS.
I had this happen to me once, and it may be TMI, but eventually it absorbed enough that it slide far enough down that I could feel it - I didn't know quite what it was, just that it hurt and was very uncomfortable, and obviously I went to the bathroom to check it out and found it. I couldn't believe it, felt so dumb.
@JessicaWakefield: Definitely head to the doctores office whenver you can just to make sure that you don't have an infection. Mine was only left in for about 4 days and she said I had a pretty bad infection because of it. I know it sounds weird but now I am paranoid about leaving another one in so whenever I'm about to put one in or take one out I write the date and time lol...mine got pushed up by another one as well and the string fell off of it at some point. DON'T EVER BUY DOLLAR TREE TAMPONS. It's not worth it lol the strings fall of quite easily apparently.
@JessicaWakefield: LOL! Actually I did kind of the opposite to forget it! You see, my grandmom told me one day that she DID actually forgot she had a tampon in once. And she not only forgot, but put another tampon in the next day!! so, when she took the second tampon out, she thought she was "tampon free".. but then a few days after, she started to smell a really bad odor, so she went to the doctor, and there was the old tampon! I can't remember if she got an infection :s.. Anyway, after that I started to freak out about it, and one day in which I was very tired, I remembered the day before I had used a tampon, and I just couldn't remember if I had taken the tampon out, and started searching like crazy, because I thought I still had it in! well, it wasn't!
You should go to the doctor if the bad smell persists...
@bananejaune: No way! I loved the Sweet Valley High Books!
@JessicaWakefield: You're not alone. I have forgotton as well. But it was only over night (I don't wear tampons over night) and when I got up in the morning to put one in, it wouldn't go in and I couldn't figure out why. Eventually I realized what was happening and fixed it.
But ya, I'd go see a doctor just to be on the safe side.
Gwen
No joke, I'm wincing and twisting over here just reading this. I'm absolutely terrified on the rare ocassions I use tampons that a piece will break off or the string will fall off and I won't be able to get it out :(
I'm always in a hurry to get them out so I've never had that happen... however my close friend left one in for 8 days! She went to the doctor the 1st time she did this and they said she was okay... She did this again 2 months later and then again not too long ago... I guess it's pretty common.
I once lost a condom in there though... only for a few hours but I knew something felt off... lol
I've never done that. But I am VERY surprised you don't have toxic shock syndrome by now! A whole week with a tampon in? You are very lucky.
I forgot once and tried to put a new one in, but it just didn't feel right and I got them both out right away. I kind of freaked out when I realised I already had one in.
I never have, but then again, I've always been too afraid to use them. I'd definitely go to the doctor and just get checked up. Better safe than sorry!
All the time! When I'm on my period, I'll put one in maybe 7 or 8 in the morning, and get home around 4 or 5 and realize I haven't thought about it all day! Yeah, sometimes there are there for over 10 hours. Worried about TSS? No, not really. I've been using tampons for over 6 years now and never had a flare up. Doctors have said if you were going to have a reaction to a tampon, it would happen soon. I would never leave one in longer than that though :/

i just discovered i had a tampon in. it must have been there for like a week or so, it seemed to be the "super size" and i remember my period ended a few days ago and i had been using regular and lites for the last few days of it. also, the last few days since my period ended, i was having this really bad odor down there. I coincidentally just came off the pill, so i attributed the odor to changes in hormones, which probably doesn't even make sense. and well now its pretty clear the odor was coming from the tampon!!! (when i got it out, it smelled BAD!). i am kinda freaking out and might go see a doctor about this. I just want to know if this has happened to anyone else and what you did or what happend? thanks.
