@AnonymousCupcake:  With DD I did a hpt a few days after my period was due and got a negative result, 2 weeks later when I still hadn’t got my period I did another hpt and it was positive-it was a big surprise! Some people have a lower pregnancy hormone early on in pregnancy and the hpts are not sensitive enough to always pick this up! Blood tests are more reliable than hpts and can usually detect pregnancy a few days after conception. If your results from the blood test come back positive than you are definetly pregnant and I wouldn’t worry about the hpt showing a negative. The only time to be concerned is if a hpt shows a positive followed by a negative. Good luck!!

Commenting to follow. I’m not quite 9 days late but am definitely late with no positive HPT. Interested to hear your results OP!

Yup. I got a negative on a cheap Internet HPT the day I got positive blood test results. 24 weeks pregnant now!

@AnonymousCupcake:  Ughh that is so frustrating!! Are you charting at all? Maybe you just ovulated late? I have no clue. I’m just hanging out at 7dpo and stupidly already peeing on all the things. Why? I know it’s going to be negative before I even do it. Ugh. Haha

a HPT and a blood test (which is called HCG) are tested on the levels of HCG that rise in your blood after you conceive. When you aren’t pregnant, the levels are 0. When you get pregnant, they start doubling about every 48 hours. So it takes about 2 days (post implantation) to register at 2 then at 4 then 8 etc. By the time a HPT is VERY faintly positive it would be about the level of 30. A sonogram can’t be done until levels are about 1500 (well you can do a sonogram anytime but you couldn’t see anything but a yolk sac probably even at 1500). Some eggs are fertilized in different spots along the fallopian tube or the uterus so depending on where an egg is fertilized and when/where it implants, that process could take a varying amount of days, so some can show up later than others.

Hope this helps!  I am an RN and worked in OB for awhile!

@AnonymousCupcake:  Did you come off the pill in the last 3 or 4 months? Sometimes that can mess things up, even if you had your first period on time the first month.  It could be just your body adjusting!

FX for you and good luck!

@AnonymousCupcake:  My period was 2 weeks late when starting to TTC…stress/ttcing or knowing you want to try for a baby can do a # on your hormones unfortunately even if they’re always on time.

I hope you get a BFP soon!
