I struggle with this too. I will have been at this place for over 2 years by the time my wedding occurs and quite enjoy many of the people I work with, including my boss, and think it would be lovely to invite many of them, especially the ones I work very closely with. Many people express interest in my wedding and some of it, I am sure is small talk, but I can’t help but get the sense that some might be angling at something more. However, drawing the lines of who to invite is ugly and still bites you in the end if you ask everybody, because then you end up inviting people who only attend out of obligation.

littlecats : Yeah sometimes you just have to include that one person in your class so you’re not setting yourself up for an uncomfortable work environment later on: she’s a cool person, just not close with her not like the other 3.
The only people at work who have been bugging me for an invite are my students (adult students) and I just tell them that’s not professional and wouldn’t be appropriate. But I Promised I would bring them pictures and we will have a class reception 🙂

I invited co-workers that I had a relationship outside of work with – including their S/O.
