Didn’t they do all that for you at the car dealer? I leased back in March and they did all that for me….renewed my tag for me too.

I’ve leased a few cars back in my 20’s (Honda Civics, too!!) and I never had to do any of this. I simply paid the 1st payment, plus tax and tags. The dealer should do everything for you. They do this all the time!

@JuneBride_26June2010: I’ve never heard of anything such as this. I’ve always simply dealt with a car dealer in both leases and purchases. And the fact that the dealer couldn’t tell you exactly what to expect and what to do is very strange. I just bought my new car in June and didn’t pay my first payment and taxes until July, but never had to deal with the DMV.  I don’t get it. Is it possible this is a different state law? Each state must be different.

I lease and the dealer takes care of everything.  We don’t pay the state, Honda does, and we pay Honda.  Technically, they hold the title on the car.

Well, you may not have to pay anything to get the car but all that should be included in the lease.  I didn’t pay anything when i leased mine either but they transferred the tag and included it on the cost. They estimated it then sent me a refund for the overage.
