umm I freak out everytime I get a response card and it says yes and its not someone I know! lol I’m like “here’s another one for the YES pile!” I only wanted like 125 but its more than likely gonna be more like 160. I mean, I want people to come..but I’m just thinking “theres another mouth to feed” and freak out a bit! Although, I think my dad is going to freak out more than me since he’s paying for the food LOL

Umm yes!!  I was firm at the beginning about 75 MAX.  My FI was already upset with this number being ‘wayyyy toooo big’, especially since his entire famly lives on a different continent so 99% of the guests will be from my family only.  Our venue holds 100 max, and my mom’s first draft guest list had 98 people on it AFTER knocking off all of the ‘I guess we don’t have to invite them!”

Seriously?  Who are all these people?  FI and I are inviting VERY few friends, like only 2 people from my FI’s entire family are invited, and my parents each have relatively small families.  When my parents got married, the managed 120 and that was with like all of their neighbours and both of them having local families.  I’m not laughing though, it makes me kinda mad!

I hope you do a better job at putting your foot down then me!  At least our venues will both top out pretty quickly and force our parents to show some restraint!

oh yes, yes indeed.  our guest list went from 130 to 190 nearly overnight!  we’re negotiating with our parents and ourselves to make sure we’re keeping this under control, but man, it’s hard!

yeah the guest list debacle. i wanted a small wedding of 80 tops. compromised and found a place that seats 120. the inlaws and FH went 25 over their allotted 60. and thats after i told them to cut it down. Since my parents are paying for the reception and im trying to keep costs down, im gonna have to put my foot down or “lose a few invites” ha.

Part of my problem is my mom’s friends.  I have no hesitation about her inviting her friends that I grew up around – in fact I want them there.  But she also wants to invite 9 friends she has met in the last few years, plus all their spouses.  I’ve been introduced to some of them once or twice, but i really don’t know them at all.

I’d rather them not be there, but she told me about 5x right up front how badly she wanted to have them.  She keeps going on about how ‘the important part of a wedding is delcaring your commitment in front of others” and “the most important thing to me is having people there vs. how nice things are” and “I’m willing to pay the extra to invite a few more ppl” etc.  My parents are paying, so what can I really say?  But it does suck that there is 18% of my MAX guest list RIGHT there in people I don’t know or care about.  She will definitely have substantially mroe friends there then I will have.

I’m really lucky that both our parents were super laid back about guestlists. I honestly felt so guilty that they only wanted a few invites and I was taking the majority. Granted family alone from both sides is just under 100. And that’s CLOSE relatives!!!!

Our list will max out at 150 but I wish I could afford to have more. There are still people I’d like to have but its just not in the budget ๐Ÿ™

I wanted 65 people. I have budgeted for 120. With my mothers friends and my FIL’s ‘obligations’ we have invited 175. We do a little dance every time we get a no, LOL

I’m glad you’re laughing!  I’m freaking out a little on mine.  We’re definitely under capacity (by 7 people), but man, my mom was SO WRONG about the “oh, don’t worry, they’re not going to come” list.  She insisted on inviting her friend’s children (who are teenagers or older), saying “oh, they’ll have better things to do.”  WRONG.  ::sigh::  I don’t even know the children!

Oh well.
