hi all! I’ve had my e-ring for almost a week now, and it looks bigger to me than when I first received it. Before I got it, I found out it was shy of the size I had wanted. So perhaps that had a play in my initial disappointment/fixation on the perceived small size and time has allowed me to adjust my thinking.
But now Im finding that I really like the size! Also, not scrolling through images of the bigger rocks on here or instagram has helped me stop comparing.
Has anyone else thought their diamond seems bigger? Many people mention diamond shrinkage, but I am experiencing the opposite! Just curious if im the only one?
For reference, i have a .97 carat.

I haven’t experienced this but just wanted to say your ring is beautiful! Love an oval with a little gold band xo

I get what you’re saying. I haven’t experienced shrinkage, per se, but I have definitely gotten used to wearing and looking at it. Once in a while I’ll be walking by a window or mirror and it will surprise me how the size looks on my hand from a different perspective. It’s a nice little “wow” moment that makes me fall in love with it all over again!

Wow! Maybe it’s the snow setting, but that looks like a BEAUTIFUL diamond. You are probably experiencing the opposite of shrinkage for all the reasons you described, plus the outstanding color and cut.

Me! We went for quality over size and at first I kinda wondered if I made the wrong choice. When I got it I was a little disappointed because I was wondering if I made the wrong choice – but it turns out that I am a major klutz who never wears jewelry and anything bigger than my .91 oval would have just gotten in the way too much. I love drooling over other people’s giant rocks though!

faramora : your diamond is gorgeous!
I don’t want to sound vain but I am blown away by the diamonds in my ring every day. They have never seemed smaller. I don’t wear my ring while home (only when I go out of the house) and if I haven’t had it on for a few days it’s like seeing it for the first time again when my mouth just about dropped on the floor. I’m so thankful too because my ring size is about a 7.5.
BTW – it’s an heirloom on my FIs side so it was “free” which accounts for some of the daily giddiness.

I have a .75 which can be considered small to many. Some days I look and it looks a heck of a lot bigger! Some days it looks exactly what it is. we almost went with a .5 round but went with a .75 princess cut in the end and I have never regretted it! 😊

I experienced the same thing! I knew what the ring looked like before he proposed, because we picked it out together, but I had kind of forgotten what it looked like until he gave it to me haha. After a few days of wearing it, I thought, dang this thing is way bigger than I thought it was!

I have a diamond under a quarter carat for a promise ring right now. Baby diamonds on the sides.. It seemed ridiculously small at first but I didn’t think it mattered with it being a promise ring. But it seems more large now.. *shrug* still not my dream size but again… not THE ring. 🙂

Yes! My ring is 1.25 carats but my hands are small (size 4 finger) so it looks huge to me. In my social circle there aren’t a lot of married women and the ones I do know have much smaller diamonds or plain bands, so that also probably has to do with it. I’ve been wearing it for about 6 months now, and I can’t imagine going bigger.

I had sooo many issues with my ring before we got married. It felt awful. But now that I’ve had it almost a year I kinda like it the way it is and I appreciate what I have alot more.
I still want my dream ring someday but the need is much less pressing than it used to feel. My slightly less than half carat stone doesn’t seem as small to me as it used to when I first brought it home. <3<3<3

Yes, I’ve found this! I just half about a half a carat and while I was originally aware that was a bit small, with wear I have increasingly found it plenty large and am glad I didn’t go any bigger (just in terms of my own style and preferences — I think bigger stones are gorgeous on many other people!).

That ring is perfect sized for your hand. It’s beautiful! I’d say that’s why you’re experiencing the opposite of shrinkage.

My diamond is pretty large, and I will confess that although I do have the occasional bit of DSS, I also have days when I catch a glimpse of my ring (often in a mirror) and go “HOLY CRAP THAT’S HUGE!”.
