I found my dress about two weeks ago, although I wanted to visit one last place at Van Cleve tomorrow before finalizing my decision on what I believe to be "the one"! I'm getting married next June and from what I've heard 1 year is not too early. As long as your weight is pretty consistent you would be fine. I've been told that the ones that tie in the back are great, b/c no matter if you gain or lose weight it should fit great. Hope this helps!
OMG, the wait to start dress shopping has been killing me too! I'm actually going to start looking next month because my mom will be in town then, but I probably won't order until later in the fall. Of course, if I find "the one" then I'll probably go ahead and order earlier than that, but I'm SUPER indecisive and my mind keeps changing about what I want, so we'll see.

I'm Oct 2011 and have found and bought mine. It was the first dress I loved and cried over, and while I found others I liked, this first one was The One. I know it's early...but I'm impulsive! Here's hoping I don't change my mind. It should be in in August!
I found my gown in November of 2009, and we are getting married in March of 2011. That was 16 months prior to our wedding. Right now it is hanging in my closet waiting for me :-)
ktbrady: We're date twins!! I found my dress in June of 2009, and ordered it in September of 09.. And I have absolutely no regrets, even though my wedding is still over a year away!! And now I have one of the big purchases out of the way..
I'm not an August 2011 bride, but I wanted to say that I started looking more than a year out from my wedding. Go for it!
I'm June 2012 and already found mine!
I was a little worried that I'd be tempted to look, but it's just made me feel so laid-back about wedding planning. Everything is falling into place and it's lovely having my dress in our closet, waiting to be worn!
My wedding is September 2011 and i found my dress two weeks ago. I had been looking for almost 3 months and when i saw the dress i picked, i just knew it was "the one." i have n regrets even though i still like to look around on wedsites to see other dresses, but my dress fits me like a glove and looks ravashing. I'm not getting it fitted until may or june of next year. you'll be fine!
Thanks all! It makes me feel better b/c during my first shopping trip I think I found THE dress! I am still going to go to a few more stores just to look but I can't imagine finding a dress I love more than the one I found! It made my Mom cry so I guess that is a good test!
Hi guys, I found THE DRESS yesterday! To cut a long story short I found it on my first shopping trip a few months ago and have looked at what feels like a zillion dresses ever since. The reason being "the dress" was over my budget. I had a dream about it the other night (haha I make myself laugh) and phoned the lady at the shop, and negotiated a £400 discount to buy the one off the peg and am paying the deposit next week! I was so happy. Its beautiful. A Maggie Sottero 2010 collection! A massive weight has been lifted! :)
Ahh! You guys make me feel so much better. I'm going dress shopping this weekend. Everyone is like-but you aren't getting married for almost 2 years! Yeah, well, so what! I want to do everything at my pace and not feel rushed! So, if I find the one this weekend, so be it!
Did you find your dress at priscilla of boston? I got my dress there too and I bought it more than a year before my wedding. Good thing to because it took 8 months for my dress to come in. So shopping early is sometimes a good thing!
Yes, I did find it at Priscilla. Good thing you warned me b/c I was going to take my time a bit in ordering it but once I check a few more stores out (just to make sure of course that this is THE one) I think I will just go ahead and order it.
I found mine before the year mark. Like with men, sometimes you just know when you know.
I'm dying to start shopping! Glad I'm not the only one! We're almost at a year off, and I'm trying to hold out until we're at the 10 month mark...It doesn't help that I've been getting emails from Priscilla of Boston either.
I bought my dress a year before the wedding... which was 8 months before we set the date and 10 months before technically got engaged. Confused?
I had been "window shopping" on the internet for a while, found several styles I liked, and set up alerts for them on eBay. Seemed like fate when one of my faves was offered up in my size (!) and the color I wanted for just more than half the typical retail price. Since it would save us so much money and we knew we were headed toward marriage anyway, we decided to buy it (my FI was in on the decision, but didn't see the dress till the big day).
Many long months later we set a date. Two months after that he got around to giving me the ring :) [It's custom-made and there were... issues... getting it finished.]
Very few people knew I had a wedding dress sitting in my closet when I wasn't even engaged yet, because I didn't want to sound like a looney. :-D
I know this is a slow response to your post but it just came up in past postings.
So, I haven't technically purchased it yet, but I totally found the dress I want yesterday. Like, a year and a half in advance. :-) (we're getting married oct 2011). I went dress shopping yesterday in part because I'm excited and also because I was visiting home home this weekend and coincidentally one of my BM from current home also was too. So I was able to do shopping with my whole wedding party and my mom. I do have to say I didn't go into it thinking I needed to find the dress though I tried one on, and as everyone says, it felt like "the one." So, I guess it is. :-) and now i just have to figure out when to order it and how to hide it for a ridiculously long period of time.
Well I'm pretty sure that I found mine and it's all I can do not to buy it. I figured it was simply be too early and who knows where I might be in a year, so I've decided to wait until this august and if the dress is still avalible then it was ment to be :)
I know it was early, but I actually made the first payment on my gown in January of this year! But in my defense, I'd been stalking the dress for almost 2 years and had tried on dozens of other gowns, but kept going back to this one. After trying it on at one salon, the woman that helped me that day called me about 4 months later when they found out that it was probably going to be discontinued this spring! 
So I went in, tried it on again, and knew it was the one. And every time I see a picture of it, I don't regret my decision at all! the way I see it, when it arrives (probably this August), I'll have a whole year to relax knowing that I have my dream gown!

It's not really that early. My wedding is in December, and I bought my dress July 2009. :) When you know, you know!
I found my dress this weekend! I totally thought it would take me longer, and while I'm kind of sad the experience is over (trying on dresses is fun!!!) I LOVE my dress! :-)
I had purchased a gown 13 months before our wedding convinced it was the one, and I ended up buying another dress because it turns out, I didn't really like the first one :)
I would always suggest you try on as many dresses as possible, and wait until that 9-month mark before you make a decision. So many brides jump the gun on their decision, and they end up being two-dress brides, like myself, and I STILL haven't sold my first dress :(
I found my dress and ordered it just a couple of weeks ago. I don't plan on having alterations right away, but it's so nice to know what the dress looks like and it makes it easier to pick our bridesmaid dresses and bouquets. :)

I was just wondering if any other August 2011 brides had gotten their dress yet? I am just starting to look at dresses this weekend (I have an appointment at Priscilla of Boston Sunday- yea!) but it has been killing me to wait this long to start looking! Anybody found the one?
