If you don't want to turn red, you could always drink something without alcohol for the toast. Sparkling cider or the like.
yes- one drink my cheeks, upper arms, and chest bright fire red... I never drink- And will not be drinking at my wedding either...
I do - and I've realized that red wine is the worst. Something about sulfides?? I hadn't really thoght about it for the wedding, so I'm not sure if I'll worry about it or not.
I found THIS. I didn't think of it before - but I was labeled by a Doctor a while back as being allergic to drugs with sulfa in them - hello. Lightbulb moment.
My girlfriend does!!! And sometimes FI does ( I think he is alergic to beer, but he doesn't care!)
I'm also cursed with the Asian glow. Someone once suggested taking a Pepcid AC about a half hour before drinking to prevent the redness. My FI swears by it and I recently tried it and it really does work! If your eyes get red when you drink, the Pepcid AC won't help that but it definitely works against the skin flushing!
My dad is a quarter Filipino and gets so red from drinking. I don't really think there is an option besides not drinking. Maybe just sip something non-alcoholic for the toasts and then warn your photographer that reception shots of you should be in b&w? :)
I can't wait to try this! I might have to make the FI take me out to night I've always wanted to try a margarita!
I do, I'm not asian either. Alcohol inflames mah body - so I only drink in the dark, or with people I know ;)
OMG i'm gonna try that Pepcid AC thing tomorrow for New Year's Eve!!!My eyes don't get that red but they get very glassy and become even more asian looking ...lol
Yeah I find wine and champagne give the worst redness, beer isn't too bad (takes 2 of those), and surprisingly tequila is not too bad either!!!!
@dorsay I try to only drink in the dark too hahahahaha. I would never drink in the daytime
@diorable lol i guess they might have to be b&w pics...i never thought of that hahahha
I would def. go with cider for the wedding! You could always have a glass of champagne with your new hubby when you leave the reception. ;)
This happens to me, I'm native american. I find that some things do it more than others
It happens to my brother's girlfriend who is Japanese. It's definitely a sulfate thing. She swigs a bunch of Mylanta about 45 minutes prior to drinking. Works for her. Good luck!
A friend of mine takes milk of magnesia before a night of drinking.
My SIL turns red when she drinks tequila! I saw it happen over Christmas break! I hope the Pepcid AC thing works for you! I say do a couple test turns before the wedding to make sure!
I've also heard the pepcid thing (from ejs, I think, who's like 1/4 asian).
Anyone know of a good preventative for asian-drinking-induced hangovers? J can't have a whole beer without getting a wicked headache hangover (he's 1/2 korean), and it makes me sad for him (okay, that sounds kind of pathetic).
Sometimes one of my ears will get red (usually the right one) and when I drink too much too fast my entire body gets red and BLOTCHY! I haven't tried the pepcid thing but I think I might!
PS - not asian - I just get red when I drink sometimes!!
I'm caucasian and I get a bright red face after even half of a drink. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of alcohol it is. I'm not too much of a drinker so it has never bothered me too much, but I never thought about wedding pics. I'll have to try the pepcid and see how it works.
@daydreamwanderer If I drink I usually get a hangover headache the same night BEFORE going to sleep... I take an excedrin and it's gone by morning
Looks like you have some good tips here already - let us know how they work!
@daydreamwanderer - I am Asian too, and although I don't get red face, I get horrendously sick after 2+ drinks. I don't even like the taste of alcohol anymore - not beer, wine, hard liquor, nothing - so I don't even have one drink. I figure I just save money this way, though. Anyway, to answer your question, drink tons and tons of water before bed. That should help. :)
Wow, I had never heard of the sulfate thing. Im half white half mexican and this use to happen to me when didn't drink enough water and ate a lot of fast food.
Maybe if you made sure to be really hydrated that would help too? I drink about 3-4 water bottles a day and I don't get red anymore. Also no french fries, potatoe chips or other heavily processed foods anymore.
Hmm, I don't and I'm 3rd generation Chinese and 2nd gen Fijian (ok, and 2nd gen German - which probably helps). Hope you find a cure before your wedding! Otherwise I'd go with a sparkling grape juice for the toasts and reception and have a glass of bubbly with your new hubby later!

I don't really know what category to put this under....
I am half Chinese and I get soooo red if I drink just ONE drink. My Dad - tomato also. It has something to do with ur liver not having some enzyme to process the alcohol or something like that. Anyway, what the heck am I gonna do at my wedding??? I don't want to be red in all the pics of the reception!! I'm sure I'll be red right after the toast!! And I mean entire body red not just face, EVERYWHERE! UGH I hate it!! The only thing I can do is not drink, but that is SO NOT FAIR!!
Anybody else get red? Is there anything you can do besides not drink???
