I had a chemical in early May. My FRERs were super faint before AF arrived so I knew it was coming because I was testing at 13dpo. I did not test after AF arrived so I can’t say how long the hormone stays around, but with my MC last year I was getting lines on the FRER all the way down to an hcg level of 6!! Anyway, we did try again the next cycle after the chemical and I got pregnant and am now 24 weeks along. I’m sorry you are going through this, it really does suck, but hopefully you’ll get your BFP again very soon.

mrsalexander:  yes, this just happened to me last month. i got BFP two days in a row (sat – sun), then it was almost non existent when i tested again on monday morning, and i got an awful period 2 days later (wednesday). It was bad enough that i landed in the hospital. At the hospital they did my bloodwork and the levels were very low on the wednesday, but not non-existent, so they had me come back on friday, when they determined the levels were basically zero. (like 0.02 or something).

from the wednesday i went to the hospital through to the following friday (so a full week and 2 days), i didn’t feel normal. tired, shaky, weak, lightheaded and just generally uncomfortable in my abdomen. my breasts shrunk down which was another depressing thing to happen, lol.

sorry you are going through this right now. it sucks, big time. hope you get the closure you need asap and can move forward. that really helped me from an emotional standpoint.

mrsalexander:  My experience was slightly different although still considered a chemical. I had 12ish days of positive tests that were progressing darker and darker, until one day they weren’t. And then they got lighter. And lighter, until they were barely visible.  Then I started bleeding.  Once I started bleeding I stopped peeing on a stick because I knew the HCG was almost gone with how faint the line had been before hand.  I did get blood drawn something like 6 days after the first day of bleeding, and HCG was <5

This has happened to me twice, both times I was getting + pregnancy tests for almost 2 weeks before loss. Both times the HCG cleared out around the same time as bleeding stopped.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. After getting several positive tests over 3 days I went in for blood work. On Thursday my HCG was 10, I started my period Saturday, and my HCG was only 2 on Monday. My Dr. did have me get the Rh shot since I am O-. Something to ask about but not all Drs will have you get it. We did get the go ahead to start as soon as we were ready.

mrsalexander:  I am sorry I can’t be that helpful, I don’t know how long the horomones stayed in my system. I tested Oct. 23rd, got back from vacay on the 26th and tested negative on the 27th and 28th (i only tested again on the 28th because i came back with a UTI and they needed to know if I was or not since I needed antibiotics. I still have no gotten my period (its due between Nov 3 & 4), but the doctor told me that I can continue  trying, it seemed that the chemical pregnancy happened very early.

I had a MC at 6w4d (iirc) and my HCG level was already at 7 by the time the bleeding started.

If you have a negative blood type you should have a Rhogam (sp) shot as well.

My OB suggested waiting one cycle to try again, but I couldn’t find any real medical reason to back that up other than LMP for dating purposes. It did take extra time for my cycle to return next month.

Westwood:  one dr. told me i didn’t need to wait to try again, and my GP told me i should give my body a rest. We are trying again this month… I figured it was fine. Just wondering what you mean by “LMP for dating purposes”?

Sorry forgot to answer your second question.  My doc told me to start trying right away if I felt ready.  I think there’s a certain time period that has to pass being pregnant before docs really recommend you don’t try again, and that time must be past 5 1/2 weeks because that’s how far I was!

I used the first day of full miscarriage bleeding as my first day of period and I ovulated right around the same time I would normally.

krystalite:  They use your LMP for dating purposes, so if you were to get pregnant again immediately it might not be as accurate. A lot of people have a wonky cycle after a MC.

mrsalexander:  I had what I thought was a chemical pregnancy and when I tested after my “period” it was a darker positive, I was still pregnant.  I don’t want to give you false hope, because I ended up miscarrying anyway, but it it possible to still be pregnant.  If the line looks darker, I would definitely speak to the doctor.  Otherwise, I would imagine the pregnancy tests should get progressively lighter.

My doctor never suggested waiting to TTC again, FYI.

mrsalexander:  I’m sorry to hear about your loss, I had a CP last month, I don’t know how long the hgc was still present for but I know I was still testing positive (very faint) right up until when the bleeding started.  I asked my doctor if it was okay to start trying right away and they said yes, they only recommend waiting if the miscarriage occurs after 8 weeks.  We started trying again this cycle, I actually ovulated much later than normal CD23 (I usually ovulate CD12-14).  I just got another BFP a few days ago and this time the lines are getting darker instead of lighter so fx it’s a sticky bean.  I think as long as you’re ready to try again go for it.

First, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I really took my early loss hard, so I totally understand just wanting the physical part to be over.

I’m trying to think. I got my first + HPT on a Friday (when my period was officially late). On Monday, the line was still VERY faint, so I got tested. My hCG level was 30. On Wednesday morning, it was down to 14. I started bleeding that afternoon/evening. I think I went back a week later, and my hCG was less than 1. FWIW, I have heard of an FRER picking up a (confirmed by the lab) 6. They are extremely sensitive.
