I don't know much about this condition, but I say go for it. I'm assuming the medications, etc aren't risky for the baby and that it is just a very frustrating problem to deal with. Now that you know more about it, hopefully you can reduce your risk factors. I know someone that has (regular) facial palsy, and she can't change that, so I'm sure you could do it again for a few months if you desire another baby.
I haven't had it but someone I work with had it last year. It is so scary how suddenly it comes on. She wasn't pregnant at the time though.
Tammy - I am so sorry this happened to you! Not having had a baby yet or this condiction I have no idea what I would do, but it could be enough to dissuade me.
I did some quick reading on this after your post - I just want to caution others before they freak out that it is NOT common. The risks DO go up for pregnant women but they are small to start - 20 per 100,000 and pregnant women are 3x more likely which means 60 in 100,000 which is is still not common (0.06%).
I guess I just had a case of 'bad luck'... :( I pray it will never come back again but it is something I worry about every morning when I wake up, everytime I look in the mirror and when I take pictures. I use to model and loved being in front of the camera, but now I try to avoid getting pics taken when I go visit family or go out anywhere. Imagine how hard it is to know im going to have to smile constantly in 5 months on my wedding day, but i've been practicing in the mirror. Its crazy because it shows a little more in pictures! (Or maybe im just paranoid)

Yup this happened to me about a year ago, I was 8 months pregnant and had the best pregnancy up until Thanksgiving morning I woke up with an ear ache. I went to see my primary doctor and she checked my ears and said there was nothing wrong with it. I kept trying to convince her that I heard swooshing noises in my ear and it really did ache! She just sent me home and reassured me I was fine. Then on black friday I woke up and couldnt even blink my left eye! Not at all! My right lip was drooped and I literally looked like I just had a stroke!
Scared shit, I rushed myself to the ER and neurologist diagnosed me with Bell's Palsy, put me on steroids and perks, oh boy was I the loopiest most horrifying looking pregnant woman ever! I was completely miserable and all I could do was turn to websites to read other stories of people going through the same thing.
I discovered that it is a temporary paralysis of a facial nerve and is common in 3rd trimester pregnancies. Men and women of all ages get it from either sleeping with the AC on, sleeping with their hair wet, or anything in that matter (which is what i use to do before this)
Docs told me it should go away as soon as I had the baby, but it didnt. It lasted, full blown, for about 3 months! I looked like i was having a stroke for 3 months! Imagine that!
Now its been a little over a year and i can gratefully say its gone 95%, sometimes when it gets really cold out or when I get stressed out I can feel the left side of my face stiffening up, yup it really sucks. But some people have a crooked smile permanently or a droop so I thank God everyday that I have recovered the way I did.
I guess its true when they say girls take all your beauty, haha.
Anyone else unfortunate like me that had this too? I would love to hear stories from my fellow bees
