I won a genuine Le Creuset heart-shaped casserole in a competition and after the first use I found out that it had cracked all the way down the cleft in the heart.
Has anyone else come across this problem?

Wow. That’s pretty shocking. I’ve had mine for over 30 years and the pieces still look new. I think you got a defective one and they should have no problem replacing it.

@ItWasntMe: The way it cracked it looks like it was an air bubble in the ceramic as there’s a spot where it seems to have exploded out then it cracked right through from there.

yeah, i’ve never had an issue too. my MIL has had hers for over 30 years as well with no issues and they look gorgeous still! Try to get another!

Ours is only about a year old but we’ve never had any problems. Do you have the original paperwork? I might be wrong, but I thought there was a (lifetime?) warranty.

WOW. I definitely have never heard of a Le Creuset cracking. I agree, call them up, I can’t imagine with their reputation they will hesitate at replacing it. Assuming you never put a hot pan and tried to wash it the enameled cast iron cookware is covered under the limited lifetime warranty. Which covers workmanship, which I think this would be considered under.
ETA: Let me rephrase if it’s stoneware and not the enameled cast iron cookware (which is what we all automatically think when we see Le Creuset) it’s only a FIVE year limited warranty.

@Gerbera: No, I left it to cool and then put it in the empty sink ’til we were ready to wash it. It looks like it was an air bubble in the ceramic.

I don’t have any Le Creuset yet… I registered but didn’t get any 🙁 I will be asking for them for Christmas though 🙂

Definitely call. I’m sure they will replace it. I got quite a bit from our resitry and had a few pieces before, and I’ve never seen anything like that.

Le Creuset has an amazing guarentee on their stuff- my mom got her pots/pans for her wedding about 30 years ago and still uses them! The knob broke off of one of the lids a few years back and she called- they told her to go to a local store and they replaced it on the spot. I have one pot- hoping to get more as wedding gifts!
