To make a long story short, I finally saw the ceremony venue that Fiance wanted to have so that it’s convenient for his out-of-town family and his elderly parents. It’s literally next to the waterfront restaurant where the reception will be. However, it’s in a public park. I agreed to the ceremony venue without seeing it because he said it’s pretty because the Bay Area water is the backdrop and the Golden Gate Bridge can be seen from there.
Well I finally saw it and hate it! There’s no privacy because it’s close to the park entrance so cars were driving by constantly, and the area is next to the parking lot. And the water behind us is murky brown, the bridge is tiny in the background, and a bunch of cranes can be seen from the left side. I quickly called him to tell him that there’s no way we’re getting married here!
It’s my fault for not visiting the site first. Has anybody experienced this? Or am I the most idiotic person in the whole world?
Luckily, after frantically searching the Internet, I think I found a replacement venue that I love after visiting it. I really hope we get it because the wedding is 4 mos. away! I should find out soon.

You are definitely not an idiot! While we haven’t booked a venue that we hated, we did book a photographer without researching his work. We didn’t like his style at ALL. We thought about it for awhile and decided to “let go” of him and hire the one we wanted all along!
Fingers crossed on getting the venue you want. At least you realized it in time to make a change 🙂

Good luck finding a different venue! Let us know what you pick. 🙂

The church I am getting married in is hideous inside! It’s all dark brown brick, old floors that remind me of elementary school, red carpet on the alter and the pews are painted brown and chipping terribly! My Fiance isn’t from the area where we live, so he just joined the closest catholic church to us so we can be married there (he insisted on a catholic wedding). I saw it for the first time this past week, and must say I’m rather disappointed in it.
But then I realized it doesn’t matter what it looks like, as long as we get married. 🙂 The ceremony pictures won’t be amazing, but I’m sure we’ll have other pictures to make up for that!

It’s not officially booked yet but very close to getting approved. I’m so happy and excited! I found a secluded rose garden where weddings have taken place. It’s a secret rose garden with over 6000 roses when they bloom. I’ve always always wanted to get married in a rose garden. When I initially looked for rose gardens they were all booked and I was very disappointed, which is why I let Fiance convinced me into agreeing to the 1st venue. I’m so glad I didn’t settled.
@mynn, maybe you can add some decorations any your favorite flowers to bring some color and life into the church.

I’ve been having this exact problem today! We booked our ceremony/reception venue when my mom’s friend worked there and could swing a lot of favors for us. She’s since left the company and we have to follow all of the venue rules. They told us today that there is no way they can turn the park fountain on before April 1st. The wedding is March 20th! I was counting on the fountain as a backdrop. Now I have two weeks to figure out a new ceremony plan and can’t come up with any idea that I like yet. So disappointed! We’ll figure something out though. Or we’ll go to the courthouse! Woohoo!

@amac, I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t believe that’s happening to you when your wedding is only 2 wks away. It must be really stressful for you! I really really hope something works out for you.

The ‘chapel’ in the church where we are getting married gets used for children’s events most of the time, and recently the walls were painted a hideous bright yellow! I am willing myself not to care…
