I think this can be a great post if not a wiki entry! Oh, Missus Bees!!
I found this on WeddingBee some time ago and saved the list:
If you've got a time crunch, it might be worth it to go with the missnowmrs.com idea.
I'd add:
-Organizations/Clubs - ie Alumni groups, etc
-401K/retirement plans
-also remember any store accounts
I just added one to my list the other day: The library. Had to get a new card for that one.
I think it's a progress. You will fall upon various accounts or places where you need to change your name as you go along.
Oh......just remembered, your bridal registry. Some people buy gifts as 1st year anniversary presents since the registries are good usually a couple years.
Maybe your high school or university's alumni relations. Just so they can keep you on their list for future class reunions.
What a great idea! There really ought to be a more centralized way to get the process done! This is one of the few things I'm not looking forward!
Well, I know this is old, but it sure is a useful post, so I'm going to bump it!
@SBourgeous: If it makes you feel any better, I've been slowly chipping away at my name change for a few months now. It isn't stressful when my goal is to change it at one place every week, haha.
Just found another place I needed to change my last name: Airline Miles Programs. I took a flight in January and tried to use my Mileage Plus number for United. I got a nastygram saying the names didn't match and I needed to send them a copy of my marriage license. They actually fixed it within a day of me faxing it in, but I totally hadn't thought about it. I think my miles have expired with every other carrier because I don't fly as often for work as I used to.
Also, I have a tiny RothIRA that I started with ING Direct, but then that program got bought by another entity and it was too expensive to keep putting my meager amount in each month. I recently realized I hadn't changed my name there either, and they want a copy of the marriage license AND a notarized form. First bank to ever require a notary from me and I have already dealt with ING, Bank of America, Chase, and T. Rowe Price. Anyone else come across a notary requirement?
Argh, I'm starting to look into this now. I actually live abroad and fly in/out of the country every few months, so I'm just not sure how long this is all going to take and where I will actually be able to go in and change my name (SS# and Passport!). We also need to book Christmas flights now and I'm not sure what name to use!!
Don't forget Doctors/Dentists, and your pharmacy for all prescriptions! (Once your health insurance is changed!)
