So my 10 year old daughter had a Grand Mal/Clonic Tonic seizure last week. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever witnessed. She was checked out at the ER and then later by her pediatrician. She had not been sick, no fever, all her labs – blood/urine- came back as normal. We have a follow up appointment at Johns Hopkins tomorrow for further testing (so happy to live close to a great hospital).
I guess I am just wondering if anyone experienced seizures as a child and if they ever determined the cause. And if there were subsequent seizures or if it was a one time thing?

Yes I had a serizure when I was 11. It was a result of viral meningitis and I was in the hospital for about 4 months. My parents noticed that I was acting strangely (not focused, particularly bitchy) a month or so earlier but the doctor misdiagnosed me with West Nile Virus. That was the only seizure I ever had, however.
You can obviously PM me if you want.

My friend has them, and I witnessed one… very scary.
I could be wrong, I am just trying to remember. She had one at age 5ish. They never diagnosed the cause. She had a perfectly healthy childhood after that. Then I was there when she had the next one at age 28ish. She was rushed to the hospital and they told her it was stress/sleep related and I know she went on medication.
Since then, she has had 5 or 6 more. I am pretty sure they told her she just has a seizure disorder (again could be wrong). It only affects her in the fact that 1. she worries about them 2. she cant drive so chose to live in NY city.
Luckily she happened to get a small dog who started barking right before she experienced a seizure. Now she can tell when she might be getting one and calls someone and lies down in a safe area. With the right medication to fix her sleeping patterns though, she has been seizure free for a while.
