I used to have a leopard gecko. He was pretty cool but he got impacted w/ sand and died after about 2 years. That was pretty much the end of caged pets for me. If they require a cage and can't cuddle, I'm not getting it ;)
We have a saltwater aquarium. So we have some "exotic" clown fish!
Ooh! Post pictures! I'd imagine the post title of exotic pets is a heads up it's not going to be fluffy puppies and kittens! ;-)
+1 for pictures of the kingsnake!
I think whoever clicks on this thread should be expecting to see pictures of snakes =p
I had an iguana named "Sanzo" but...
Two years ago while FI and I were living in Idaho for the summer he died =(
I think my mom didn't feed him like she said she would, she didn't like him too much.
Also I think her and FI were in cahoots, he hated my iguana and is TERRIBLY sqeamish of reptiles.
I wish I could get a snake! FI would flip though.
I have a Mustang! Not sure if she counts as exotic or not, but she's out of the ordinary... she's from a herd in Wyoming and was rounded up as a yearling, and then sat in a holding pen for almost two years because no one wanted to adopt her. Not sure why as she's the sweetest girl!

FI put in an order for those Savannah cats. They are the ones that are domestic cats that are bread with African Serval's. He has been wanting one for a very long time and we decided to get one after the wedding and we are all settled in and apparently there is almost a year waiting list so he got his order in last month. Luckily my hometown in Oklahoma is a head quarters so a large breeding facility so we arent having to pay an arm and a leg for shipping.

Wow, I didn't know about those Savannah cats. I had better not show my FI-he'll want one!
They say they are actually kind of more like dogs. They love water and swimming, they play fetch, lick you on the face (with their scratchy little tongues) They seem really neat!
Those Savannah cats are gorgeous! I already have 2 kitties though. Exotic pet...I have some dust bunnies under my bed
I'd love to see pics of everyone's exotic animals, snakes included @Krissy18 so post 'em up!!
At one point in time I had a bearded dragon and 2 red eyed tree frogs. Now we have a dog, cat, sucker fish, and a ghost knife fish. I really want another dog but its our dog doesn't get along with other dogs so we can only have one for now until I can either get Cesar Milon over here or figure it out myself!
Holy poop batman! I just looked up the savannah cats and read that some can cost up to $15,000.. Yikes!
I had a flying squirrel growing up! Actually, I had 2, the 2nd came after the 1st died. They're way better than a hamster! :-)
I'm actually glad there aren't any snake pictures, they absolutely terrify me! But I'm glad I could contribute my own exotic without getting nightmares so... thank you :-)
ps, I'm sitting on my feet just thinking about them... eakjbfgljaehwbfglieahbgjhvb
I don't thing our pet is all that exotic, but the vet classifies him as one -

His name is Baby Buffalo. We're apartment dwellers too. Husband is allergic to cats and our current lifestyle wouldn't be fair to a dog, so Baby Buffalo it is. He's a former show guinea we rescued this past summer. Love him.
i have a parrot named diablo. he is under a year but could live well past 60. he's an a$4hole most of the time. but he talks and growls and barks and mimics the microwave when the sun comes up. he loves unbuttered popcorn, baby carrots and speghetti and spends the majority of his time hanging upside down while saying "peekaboo" also while screaming at us while we are playing music and singing.
@misspizza...that guinea pig is so cute! i used to have one (long haired as well) until my dog got to him. :(
@JennHasFeet - thanks and hello, neighbor (i'm residing in rochester at the moment). Bummer about the dog & pig. My parent's golden is terrified of the guinea. Go figure.
@miss pizza, hi neighbor! it was a while ago that it happened...he was just a really large puppy that couldn't distinguish between a small animal and a chew toy. :X cheers to another detroit october bride! :)
I am totally loving all the responses on this thread!!
@futuremrsbaird Iguanas rock! My mom doesn't like my snake either, and I did have him at my parent's house for a while, but I never left long enough that she would have to take care of him. I think she would FLIP out (especially if she had to feed him). My dad thought it was totally awesome to watch him eat though. And thankfully my SO loves our little pet as much as I do.
@lilyfaith Mustang deff counts as exotic! She's BEAUTIFUL. So glad she found a nice home where she is not cooped up anymore!
@shannon1126 I have never heard of savannah cats before.... They are absolutely beautiful. I can't believe there's a waiting list that long for them... although I can totally see why.
@KLP2010 Flying squirrel! That is awesomeeeee. I don't think I've known anyone to have a flying squirrel before. Don't worry, my snake is not scary at all! He's really just a big baby.
@jennhasfeet Your parrot is so cute! There is a dude in my apartment building who wanders around with a parrot on his shoulder. He's our own little personal pirate. The parrot never leaves his shoulder and just kinda stares at everyone and chirps. My cousin however, taught her parrot to say "i dont like michael" (her brother's name). Then he would cackle.... That bird is crazzzzzy.
@stassney HEDGEHOG!! So much love.. I think those little guys are adorable. My little bro keeps talking about getting one... I hope he does.
One day I am going to get a chinchilla, I think they are just the cutest little things.. then I will have TWO exotic pets... and I won't feel so bad about putting up a picture since they're so cute and fuzzy.
I have a horse (not really exotic, but as lilyfaith mentioned, not the norm). I've had guinea pigs and two ferrets in the past. No more GPs for me though, since they've really started to bug me allergy-wise.
I would LOVE an African Pygmy Hedgehog! I'm jealous, Stassney! I wouldn't mind having a snake either (I LOVE corn snakes, and wanted to get three and name them Larry, Curly, and Moe!), but since my hubby is pretty anti-snake, I don't see that one happening. LOL!
@Helstrong - I was in some serious sticker shock when I found out how much they were, FI is NOT spending that much on a freakin cat and he is getting one that is significantly cheaper than that.

I do!! I see so many posts about cats and dogs, and I'm just wondering if anyone owns any pets that are... a bit out of the norm? Don't get me wrong I LOVE cats and dogs, but SO and I have been doing apartment living for many years now where the little furbabies are not welcome. :( We are both cat lovers and have promised ourselves a kitty of our own when we finally settle down and are not roaming from apartment to apartment.
In the meantime though.... we have a pet snake!! Yup! He's a 4 year old California Kingsnake, and I love him to pieces. I would post a pic of him, but I know a lot of people (including some of my friends) are squeamish with reptiles so I don't want to freak anyone out. He's beautiful though and much better suited for apartment living.
Anyone else?
