Since I’ve been with FI, I’ve learned that I’m pretty good when it comes to cutting hair lol.
This weekend was my 7th attempt cutting FI’s hair with this $20 kit he bought at Walmart, and for the most part, it’s not too bad. (We do one of those haircuts where you use the clippers on the back and the sides, then do the top with the scissors, then blend it all; Watched Youtube tutorials repeatedly until I could get the jist of it haha).
It’s not perfect by any means (the first time i tried, the results were so pitiful we had to buzz his head with a No.2). At least now we don’t have to do any more buzzes, but occasionally i leave pieces too long in spots, and a couple times I’ve gouged the sides trying to blend them (luckily, FI’s hair grows super-fast and he’s not picky about it!)
So what about anyone else? Do you have any secret talents no one else knows about? Or are you like me and discovered skills you didn’t know you had?

@Papillion: I am pretty good at making clothes. I have done some t-shirt hacks (e.g. turning them into peplums etc), made some pants, vintage inspired dresses and some skirts. I try not to tell people since they might inspect my clothes a little too closely and see the imperfections that are on them. A friend and close family knows and they ALWAYS want me to make or alter something for them especially at the last minute!
I discovered this 2 years ago. Youtube helped A LOT!!!

I can touch my tongue to my chin does that count?

I am a Jeopardy MASTER. It carries over to most innane details, like the ability to repeat a story word-for-word after hearing it once!

@tiff-tiff-tiff: That’s an awesome talent– I always wanted to make clothes so I could have some one-of-a-kind pieces.
@Papillion: I wish my FI would let me try to cut his hair! He has a receding hairline and keeps the rest of his hair pretty short, but still won’t let me come near it.
As for my “hidden talent,” I’ve taken to sketching and oil painting in the past year. I’ve taken a few oil portrait classes at the rec center, and I learned a lot there. I still have a LONG way to go, though!
Below is a portrait of Pink that a coworker requested. I have a few additional requests now which makes me feel pretty good about my progress!

I can tie a knot in a cherry stem with my tongue in less than 30 seconds. I can tie two knots in a cherry stem with my tongue in about a minute to a minute-and-a-half (depending on the length of the stem).
I also have almost no gag reflex – the only thing that makes me gag is bits of amalgam being washed into the back of my throat in the dentist’s office. (This was actually a bit of a problem growing up – I could NOT make myself throw up when I felt sick to relieve the sense of nausea. I have since learned to spin in circles when I feel that sick until I vomit, so it’s all good.)

@Papillion: i cut my FI’s hair too! he keep it long, down to his neck so its a little different to cut but im surprised by how well ive cut it. This last time was by far my best.

I can recite the alphabet backwards, and pretty quickly too! Granted this would only come in handy if I were to get pulled over and given a sobriety test (I do not drive when I’ve been drinking, by the by), but no one ever believes me that I can do this.
I was pretty good at memorizing sheet music in band in high school, and can pretty quickly memorize songs (like the words/beat and re-singing them), if that counts!

I’m amazing at colouring with pencil crayons. Like, I could go professional if that was a job that existed.
EDIT: But I can’t draw.

@Polyphemus: I love that you spin in circles to make yourself puke. Awww!
I was a collegiate diver and my signature dive was a double-twisting, front one and a half off the high board. That was pretty cool and horrifying.

@prettyinpink11: LOL I live in Southern California. Grew up in the desert and now live in the (very hot) valley…. so why am I a master crocheter and knitter? SIGH.
@Papillion: Other than the above mentioned fiber arts, I sew, bake, make candy and can sing. I tell people I only knit, crochet & sew for babies so they leave me the hell alone. 😛
