@BUZZingForInfo: I don’t have any but maybe this thread will help.
This is the ring my Fiance gave me, it was his grandmothers which she gave to him and said we can change it to make it ‘ours.’
Same diamond, different setting, but still with nods towards the original feel of the ring. So in love with just a subtle change.
Not really an upgrade since we just had the center stone re-set.
Stunning Ladies! You Bees have fabulous taste! The reason I started this post was because I wanted to see if resetting a diamond can make it look bigger! I LOVE my setting but want the diamond to look larger. My prongs are straight now. If I get them replaced with curved prongs and set the diamond higher, I think It may make the diamond look bigger. I need advice from some Bees!!! I’m going to post a side and front view of my Engagement Ring, along with a stock photo of a ring that has the prongs that I want to change to.
What do curved prongs look like? Dumb question but I’d like to see…
My diamond looks like 2x bigger now that it’s in it’s new setting. My first setting didn’t let any light thru (as you can see by my side view pic) and my diamond always looked dirty. It was also very low profile, and now in the new setting, it’s lifted a lot higher. It really made a HUGE difference.
The curved prongs may make a *tiny* bit of difference but it will make it nearly impossible for a wedding band to sit flush with your ring (assuming that’s what you would want).
There’s several ways to make a diamond appear larger – two of the easier ways are setting the diamond higher (so that it’s closer to your eye) and getting a halo put around the diamond.
IMO I think your diamond is a great size but if you want it to look larger that’s certainly your perogative.
I have also seen 6 prong settings that make diamond appear larger because instead of 4 chunky prongs you have 6 thinner prongs and the full circle of prongs around the diamond make it more round and bring your eye out to the edges, if that makes sense.
Here’s my before & after! I definitely think a halo setting tends to make the center stone look larger..
