Like Indiegogo.com or Gofundme.com or the like?
For anything. How did it go? What did you think of the site? Did you reach the goal you wanted, what sort of promoting of it did you do?
I’m usually very private person, but my dad really needs help with a fairly expensive thing (sorry don’t want to be too detailed… not medically necessary, but would make his life 10x easier). I’ve broached the subject of trying crowd funding and I’d be willing to do the work on it. Even attach my Facebook/Google+ profiles as they are pretty locked down but you can see I’m a real person because you get better exposure linked and if you want to post a video for some sites it’s YouTube and few select others.
I only know one person who tried it for skin removal surgery. She nearly died when she had her son from preeclamsia then lost over half her weight in about a year and a half (to a healthy 170) but suffers from excess skin. She didn’t raise much but she only posted about it on her blog (tiny) and Facebook. I’m prepared to really put it out wherever possible (but not spamming anywhere) for my dad and he understands this puts his pics/videos out there too as he was in tech before he retired.
He has talked to two tax professionals (US) who both said at this time there’s no taxes, as it’s usually small gifts from many people. The issue is when you’re raising money to fund a business or product becaue then you’re looking for funding for something you will make money from so if that’s the case it’s taxed.
So I’m hoping for some stories of success/failure, what made it/didn’t make it, or any advice really.
Thanks for reading and for posting if you have something to share!
