I know that it is probably more of a pain in the butt to sit down in but I also feel a hoop skirt will have advantages for me. I think it will keep me cooler and it will help me maneuver better during my full mass ceremony with all the kneeling and such. Any recommendations?

They are the easiest dresses to sit down in! Far, far easier than tulle petticoats. If you need some tips about how to move around in them, watch Gone with the Wind–especially that dance sequence. Swoon! Also, The King and I (the old version) does a good job in showing how Anna moves around easily.
I would go with no fewer than a “four bone” hoop. I’ve found that the smaller ones are actually harder to deal with rather than ones with some more structure. For the ultimate, a costume shop usually has “old style” hoopskirts. Man, those are nice but hardly practical for today’s fashions. I ordered my most recent hoop from “my gowns dot com”, and they were fantastic. Lots of selection, and good service.
