I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Maybe you should go ahead and change the green card first and then you will be able to change with the social security easily?
the green card is $270!
I am going to just become a citizen! But that takes minimum 8 months! And I need the Social security card so i can change my name at work and therefore on my medical insurance so it matches my drivers license!
Uh oh.. that means trouble for me too then.
I have read on their website that Social security name change will require A LOT of different documentation if you don't have the correct name on your green card already. And me being a total spaz, I have lost some of those docs, including the actual social security card itself. Yikes!
AND, I don't have my green card yet. Filed for one but won't get it for a few months probably.
How did you change your name for driver's license already? I looked it up and they say they want the Social changed first in order to change name on driver's license.
Ah geez, I just want to have husband's last name already!

OMG Hive it has been a STRUGGLE to get my new married name on a social security card!
I already changed my drivers license!
I have a greencard that I havent changed yet.
Apparantly they are allowed to give you the social security card fwithout you changing the greencard- but my local office didn't know how to. and the national office just kept sending me back to the local office ....
so today I called a local law firm to get the direct phone number to the supervisors at the local office and I talked to someone who knows how to do it! Yay! Changing my name might just work out!!!!
Anyone have any trouble like this?
