You and I are on the same wavelength- garden wedding, acoustic guitar player. I think we are going to have "I'll Be There", but I'm not sure what else yet.
I am having my guy friend (who refused to be a bridesman) do the music on his guitar. He is playing Beatles-- blackbird, across the universe, and in my life
@menobride-im cool with going the traditional route...but if I find something im just like oh yeah i have to have that I would love to do it :) "Ill be there" is gonna be beautiful!
I wanted to do "Over the Rainbow" but one of my close friends did it at her wedding and now i feel like i would be copying her.
Us too! Garden/lake wedding and I had my cousin play his guitar for us. To walk in he sang Lou Reed's "This Magic Moment". While we were signing he did instrumentals of "Here Comes the Sun" and "God only knows" (I think - is it bad I can't quite remember?!). And when we were walking back up the aisle he did an instrumental of "This Magic Moment". I loved that I had someone special to me doing the music and like you I thought the simplicity of guitar + voice was perfect :)
@mountain.bride-my bro plays guitar very well...but he is going to be a groomsmen standing up there with us so we hired a professional...we wont have anyone singing though...just keeping it instrumental :)
We are having one of FIs good friends playing acoustic guitar at our garden wedding.
For the girls processional: "From this moment" Shania Twain
For my processional: "Somewhere over the Rainbow"
Recessional: "All you need is love" The Beatles
My FI's brother is a classical guitarist. He'll be playing classical before and after the ceremony. The last song he'll do before the seating of family is Van Morrison's Crazy Love. Seating of family is Patti Griffin's Heavenly Day. I will walk to I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, and we'll walk out to First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes. All on guitar only. Yay :)
We're having my cousin play the guitar for our ceremony. Not sure what yet.
Yep, my brother! He's playing naked as they came, wildflowers, blackbird, goin' to california, and god only knows.
We wanted to but the only person i could find in stl was a flamenco guitarist =]. We opted for CDs of fingerstyle guitar of Beatles music and other classics. LOVED it.
wow! im glad other people are doing this too! i have never seen a guitar played at a wedding so i didnt know how common it was
our band is giving us a guitarist for the ceremony to use! we havent picked what we are going to use yet though :)
we are! We spent an hour with him tossing ideas back and forth - my mom's a musician so she picked the music - I don't remember what it is. For an outdoor wedding make sure he has a speaker.
our friend (professional musician) is playing guitar for our ceremony. he's playing "just like heaven" by the cure while the groomsmen/bridesmaids walk, "you are my sunshine" while i walk down the aisle, and "love and marriage" by sinatra as our recessional. i'm super excited! it just depends on what the feel of your wedding is. ours is super low key and all about friends and family, so it just made sense.
We're having a Steel Drum Band play...Bayside wedding in San Diego. They can actually play Luis Armstrong (What a Wonderful World) is the processional. They will be there about 30 minutes before the ceremony, the processional and recessional, and during the cocktail 'hour' (really 45 minutes). I've always loved the sound. :)
I've been thinking about asking a friend of mine to play a little guitar at our wedding, since we plan on going morning/afternoon outdoor casual. I've brought the idea up with another friend of mine who plays double[stand-up] bass, and he thought it would be a cool idea to have some relaxing jazz floating around.
We haven't really decided on anything absolutely as of yet, but are definitely interested in the whole live music aspect.
We are having a guitarist perform "Imagine" by John Lennon (my all-time favorite song) as our processional. We are having an outdoor ceremony, but we don't have a huge guest list - I think we will end up with 80 or so guests. Do you guys think we will still need a mic for her?
I actually just went to (ok I was spying at) a wedding of a guitarist that we are considering. He played a Jack Johnson song for the processional, Canon in D for the Bride's processional, and Hey Soul Sister for the Recessional. It was a garden wedding (which is what mine will be) and he had a small amplifier.
We are having a quitarist for our ceremony. He is a wonderful player and singer and he never performs in public. He owns his own guitar shop where he builds and fixes stringed instruments. He is kind of famous for his hand made guitars and we are SO LUCKY to have him.

We are! We are having a friend play some songs on the guitar while people are arriving and during the ceremony. We are getting married at a lake outside so it is very fitting for us :-)
