We listed two times. It said kabbalat panim at x o'clock and then under it chuppah ceremony at half past x. I got questions from people who I asked for invitation advice, so I put an insert with the wedding website on it with the invitation, and the website has an FAQ, one of which is "when should I show up?" and I gave a little more detail that people can arrive as early as x, but should definitely come before x:30.
@philabride2bee: That sounds good, I think we're going to do the same thing. I know it can be kind of confusing for people who have never been to a wedding with Kabbalat Panim before, I couldn't think of what would be the easiest way to explain everyone is invited to come early but it's not a requirement. I think we'll put in an insert with a brief explanation and I really like the idea of putting more info on the website. Thanks!
We listed Kabbalat Panim 6 o'clock, Chuppah 6:30 with no translations (though they were available on our website). Our thinking was that if most people didn't know what they meant they would show up for the earlier time listed and thus be on time for the Chuppah.
@Chatanzilla: We ended up listing our Kabbalat Panim for 7:00 and Chuppah for 7:45, we made an insert card with explanations. No one has asked about it yet! I do like that it has the added bonus that more people are likely to be on time,
