Not quite sure how to handle this. FI’s family is large (and local), and with our wedding location limited to 75, we can’t fit them all in. Decided to just invite aunts and uncles to the wedding/reception. We are thinking of having a second reception a few weeks later so that cousins and their families and family friends could be invited. Would this be okay? Being it’s mostly for the groom’s side, do they pay for this reception and the bride’s cover the wedding/reception? Who does the planning for the second reception? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

When my sister married for the second time, she did this. Our family is large also, and she wanted a small, elegant wedding with a reception at a local restaurant. I think there were 25 of us. After their honeymoon–a week later, they had another reception with the original 25 guests, and also invited nieces/nephews, other family and friends.
If you are older and have established a life away from the family, I can see where you may need to do this, especially if you have a large family.
I don’t know who would pay for what. If it was planned, maybe some of the items could be used for the second reception. I’ll be interested to hear how others have worked this out.
