There aren’t really food trucks where I live, would they make better cocktail hour food or do they actually serve meals?

I have not seen this done yet, but it sounds great!  I would love to go to a wedding that used food trucks for the meal, it sounds like a ton of fun and would be really memorable.

I’m not sure how you would do cocktail hour and appetizers.  Is the venue doing the bar or did you hire someone separate for that?  Either way, do they have any food options?  Or are you allowed to bring in your own?  A lot of it would depend on what your venue allows.

I’ve been researching food trucks too, so I’ll be interested to read the rest of the thread.  From the research I’ve done so far, there’s a handful of trucks in our area that do full-service wedding catering on the side.  The ones we’re looking into would be doing buffet service, but I’ve also seen people hire the trucks to come on site and have guests walk up to the truck to order.  I also recently discovered a coffee truck in our area that can be hired, and if we have the budget I may hire it to appear right after dessert for a pick-me-up.

@caitlovesmike309:  I think it would be great for cocktail hour, but I’d worry that older people wouldn’t like it.  What would you do for your grandparents or people who couldn’t stand in a line?  Also, if you have food trucks, people will inevitably have to stand in line.  I wouldn’t like that!

I went to a food truck event in Philly one time for Penn students and they had…like maybe 20 trucks for 500-700 people…and there were long lines everywhere.

@caitlovesmike309:  Haven’t done it, but it sounds delicious.  I would just be afraid the lines would be way long and it would take people a while to get their food for a main meal, like @peachacid:  said.

Now I want falafel and empanadas…

I love food trucks and have thought about using food trucks for our dessert. Just contact some local ones and ask if they do weddings – I know several of ours do advertise that they’ll do weddings and other private events. They’ll be able to break down better how they would operate and prevent lines.

i was planning it but we decided on a different option. its getting rather big here in Atlanta so there were alot of options to choose from. i think its a super cool idea but we ended up wtih an all inclusive venue that i couldnt refuse. we were going to do a taco truck that serves fries and other options and we considered a cupcake truck as well in lieu of a cake

I would love to do this! We might have considered it if it wasn’t for our winter wedding…

I think it’s a really cool idea. Some thoughts:

– Lines/discomfort

– Ensure that people can mingle

– Food trucks are definitely a trend now, not sure if it’s an enduring one. Would it date your wedding too much? Not sure if you care about that.

i think it can be great BUT i’d make sure that there were proper tables and chairs for people to eat at, and proper cutlery etc.

tacos sound great until someone in a fancy dress and heels is trying not to spill guacamole down their front because they’re eating it out of foil! but if you ensured that food was being served properly and provided tables, chairs, cutlery napkins etc i think it could be fun!

I WISH.  Our venue won’t let them come in the parking lot and the street is inconvenient.
