I haven't been a Protestant for a long time...so perhaps I'm not the best person to comment because I forget which hymns go with each liturgical season...but I've always loved Love Divine, All Loves Excelling and For the Beauty of the Earth (although the second seems a little bit springish with all the nature lyrics). Both seem like very joyful hymns that would be appropriate for a wedding. I'm not sure about Christmas hymns...they seem to be very specific to Christmas themes...
We sang a hymn at my best friend's wedding. She chose "Morning Has Broken," and it was one of the last things that was done before the declaration of marriage. She was raised Lutheran, and I think it was one of her favorite parts about church growing up. She printed the lyrics on the back of the program, and had a keyboardist.

Thanks ladies for the suggestions... Does anyone know of a contemporary praise and worship song that we could use in the wedding? All suggestions are appreciated..
We're singing at least one (contemporary) worship song during our ceremony. I'm currently trying to find a good song to sing, and am trying to have a list for my guy to look at this week. I can keep you posted on what I find :o)
Interesting. I'm Catholic so I'm used to joining in on the standard hymns. I think a Christmas hymn could be really nice... let me think on this one for suggestions
We will use "Let Us Break Bread Together" for one of our hymns. We were lucky because the Music Director of the church made lots of suggestions, and played pieces so we could hear and then we selected our songs that way. The only one I was sure of going in, was what I wanted to walk in on and we took it from there.
are you having communion during your ceremony? thats a perfect song for that :)
I'm still hoping to figure out a Christmas song I could use during the Unity Candle lighting...
some Christmas songs that might work during the unity candle lighting are:
Let There Be Peace on Earth
Angels we Have Heard on High
Joy to the World
Oh Come All Ye Faithful
I think you should probably keep it traditional or well known in order to get the most participation. Even if you're planning on providing sheet music, most people wont be able to read it.
I'm having a Catholic ceremony, so there will be singing, and I'm going to try to pick songs most people would know so they can join in.
We had the congregation sing "In Christ Alone" and that ended up working really well. We had the lyrics printed in the program (we only sang two verses) and had our keyboardist lead it while she played.
Christmas songs to sing....
Joy To the World
Oh Come All Ye Faithful
Ode To Joy (Not sure if this is Christmas or not but EVERYBODY knows that tune!)
We're using "Center" by Charlie Hall. Thinking about adding a second song, but this may be the only one. My FI and I grew up in the same church, and this was one of our favorites in the Youth Group. I also think that is very appropriate for the wedding.
"Oh, Christ, Be the Center of our lives, the place we fix our eyes..." So beautiful!
We are doing a congregational song in our wedding, glad to hear we're not the only ones!
We will be singing "How Deep the Father's Love for Us" it's one of our favorites and it just talks about how great Christ's sacrifice was. I love it for the wedding because it talks about His love we should model.
Like others have already said, Center is a great one and a lot of people I know do In Christ Alone.
Thank you for your help ladies!
We ended up using "Let there be peace on Earth" during the lighting of the unity candle.
The congregation sang (and so did I a little bit) while our moms, then us, lighted the candle. It was great and I was so happy to get our guests involved a bit!

I'm thinking about having the congregation sing a hymn or other type of song during the ceremony while FI and I are lighting the unity candle. Is anyone else doing this? What songs are you considering?
I'm getting married the Sunday after Christmas - is there a Christmas hymn that would kinda fit a wedding?
Any suggestions are appreciated... Thanks!
