I'm going all outdoors! We are having a tent, too. I can only hope the weather turns out well for the ceremony!
And another Southern wedding too! Let's cross our fingers for each other!
Just the reception. I'm doing the parents' house thing too. Blame Father of the Bride! :p
Haha, I love Father of the Bride! Exciting -- Southern outdoor receptions are the best!
Yup, outdoor ceremony (weather permitting) and tent reception! I love the outdoors and grew up in a teeny town in upstate NY, which is where the wedding will be held...Now I'm just praying for nice weather (and 9 months is a long time to pray!)
I had a beach wedding at the end of June in North Carolina. We lucked out with a great day... not too hot or humid. We had our reception inside but with the doors open. It was pretty hot but no one seemed to mind!
We had a completely outdoor event June 13th of this year in N.Georgia. Ceremony was at 6PM in the hopes it would be a bit cooler by then. It was a bit warm for the actual ceremony mainly b/c it was in direct sunlight, but our pavilion reception had over head ceiling fans and once we moved there for the reception it was really comfy. My one recommendation is have chilled beverages ready for guests to grab before and after the ceremony, and having a covered area out of direct sunlight also helps.
And just for fun...here is a photo from our wedding that is fitting for this question :)
Yep, I am definitely praying!! What are you all doing to beat the heat? We're doing:
- A tent
- Clip on fans around the tent
- Fans for all the guests
- Plenty of cold beverages, including cold bottled water during the ceremony and a smoothie bar immediately after!
- We're also going to provide bug spray and sunscreen
- We're going to allow people to come in the house if they need to, though its not technically a part of the reception
If it rains, we'll have two more tents - one for the ceremony and one for the cocktail hour. If it MONSOONS, we'll probably have the wedding on Sunday!
I am doing a little of both! Cerenony outside with reception inside and out. In my area I just have to worry about rain and clod...not about being too hot!
Ours will be all outdoors, but in the SF Bay Area I have the opposite problem, it might be too cold/foggy for us. In June you just never know....but we have the indoor area at our venue for our backup if needed.
We had our entire wedding - ceremony and reception outdoors. Completely outdoors. No tent, no rain-plan! I was more worried about excessive heat than rain, but you can never be certain. I had fans for the guests and we arranged our tables under the trees. In the end, it was perfect. No rain, not too hot. Gamble paid off!!!
@ baffled111 - your wedding was beautiful! You really lucked out with it not being too hot in Walla Walla (I grew up in Washington, my fiance is actually from Richland, and we went camping many times in your area when we were at WSU).
I know, it was over 100 every day for an entire MONTH before the wedding. Then the week before it rained. The drama! It wound up being perfect. Hooray for mother nature and gambles that pay off!
I got married this past June in Colorado and the weather was perfect! I think that June is a great time since it is before it gets too hot and hopefully the snow is gone, though in Colorado that isn't always certain! It was looking like we were going to have rain on the wedding since it rained two weeks beforehand, but that didn't happen!
We want an outdoor reception and ceremony in July..... i actually just posted a new post about it looking for a little advice http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/anyone-having-a-small-backyard-wedding
I would appreciate anyones advice and opinion.
This is very helpful though and I am glad tht im not the only crazy person out there who wants this..
Yep, we're braving the outdoors for the whole wedding...out in SoCal (Disneyland Hotel), so heat will definitely be a concern. But we're battling it by having an morning ceremony & cutting the reception short (no dancing, no cutting cake, no tosses) by taking our guests into Disneyland - park tix are our favors.
@daniellemybelle: thanks for the tips on how you're keeping it cool! didn't think of most of these things. LOVE the fans & cold beverages ideas!
Yes! We are having our wedding completely outdoors in our backyard with no tent. We are planning on starting just before dusk so that it will be cooler for the guests. Our backup plan is to move everyone inside because the guest list is only 40 people. Good luck!
Noooo. Just the ceremony. The reception will be indoors.
I know this is *months* too late but had to reply!
I'm having my ceremony and reception outdoors in the mountains of Kentucky. We have a tent on hold - we can call it in the day of the wedding if it looks like it will rain. Ours is in the afternoon, too - 4:30 ceremony, 5:00 cocktails, 6:15 dinner and then dancing under the stars afterward. I really wanted to have an outdoor wedding and since it's so beautiful that part of the country, I thought why not?
The one thing my mother and her sister have said over and over is that I need to get a natural fabric for my wedding dress so that I don't sweat like a hog. I'm concerned though about the bugs. I think we will have some torches with citronella in them.
Our ceremony is indoors (in a church) and our reception will be outside under tents. *Crossing fingers for good weather!*
We are having ours at a vineyard in central NY. The wedding is outdoors (with the vineyard Barrel room as the backup) and the reception is indoor/outdoor with a tent. The food will be set up in the resturant that opens up to a beautiful vine covered patio and our tent. Central NY can be beautiful or awful that time of year so we aren't taking any chances. If all else fails, we will have some fun mud puddle shots. :-)
We could have gotten married out doors, but we wanted a more traditional feel to our wedding so we are getting married inside of the church. We are also having our reception in a hall. I think that outside weddings are beautiful in the summer months. Congrats!
Well, perhaps it will be unseasonably warm. And even if it's cold, your guests will cope. I went to a wedding in Chicago on the last weekend of August--when it's ALWAYS hot. And it was really cold! (Okay, it was the mid-60s, but it's usually in the 80s-90s and in the height of summer, 60 degree weather feels freezing!) So, most people brought wraps or wore warmed clothes. I was cold, but it didn't get in the way.
So don't stress about it too much--it'll be fabulous!
We thought about a summer outdoor wedding, but in Texas, people would be passing out! LOL!
Our wedding is outdoors and the reception is indoors. Sooo nervous dont want my guests to melt in the Georgia heat...it is at 6 (trying to at least get the sun down) Considering tents just in case...I am calling my venue tomorrow so I can see if they know a tent vendor...I am soo nervous lol

I hope we're not crazy to do this! I just am very excited to get married at my parents' home - its something I have always dreamed of. So our ceremony will be in the front yard and our reception will be under a tent with fans. It's a morning wedding so I'm hoping it won't get too hot, if it is a hot day, until toward the end of our reception.
Anyone else being brave and going all outdoors?
