Just curious.  I'm moving there at the end of August (gulp).  I don't know much about the area, I only have one friend there and we'll be living riiiiight, near the in-laws.  Scary stuff... wish me luck!!

I'm not from there, but I spent a lot of time there in the past.  I really liked hanging out there with my friends, and it seemed like there was a bunch to do (and eat, New Haven has a rep for amazing pizza!).  Good luck on the move!

Welcome to CT!  I grew up near New Haven but currently live in Stamford and am frequently stopping by for good eats or just to see friends.  The city itself is young spirited (and Yale has a lot to do with it) so they have a lot of coffee shops and a range of yummy foodie places.

It's a definitely a step from the city that never sleeps, but depending on what you are looking for - you might surprise yourself.

If you have any questions, etc. let me know.  I am happy to help if I can.

    Good Luck!

@violet_violet- Thanks, I hope it goes well!  I'm beyond nervous about the move... but good pizza helps :)

@Umberzone- I appreciate the help.  I may just PM you to ask for some recommendations.  I like what I've seen of the town so far, I think it will take just a little bit of time to adjust from NYC to New Haven.  I just wish I knew people there.  It will be hard to make new friends since I'll be commuting back to NYC for work, until I find a position there.

I live in Hamden and I love New Haven! There's tons of cute shops and restaurants and outdoor festivals and fun things to do. I have lived here for several years and done the commute back and forth to NY which is rough - now I work in Stamford. Don't worry about moving - New Haven is a cute small city and close enough to NY that you can hop on the train and go down there anytime you're craving the big city! I lived in NY as well and prefer New Haven. :)

New Haven is awesome! I have several friends that live in the city in great places and I live in North Haven, one of the suburbs. There are so many things to do, places to go, and TONS of great restaurants. If you're looking for suggestions, just let me know!
