I am in the early early stages of honeymoon planning. I love travelling and the exotic and at one time had grand plans to go to Palau or somewhere in the South Pacific. Not only is this less practical from a financial standpoint (though I’m willing to splurge), I’m also not able to take an exorbitant amount of time off of work and so I don’t want to waste vacation days on the flight to and from the destination.
While I have never been to the Caribbean, I am going on a cruise in the Southern Caribbean next month with my best friend (planned way before I got engaged). I don’t want to repeat a place and have always been intrigued by the island of Montserrat. It isn’t very developed due to the volcanic eruptions, but I’ve heard you can get decent prices and it is kind of remote/secluded/adventurous.
Anyone care to chime in?

So my Fiance actually studied volcanology there for several months, but he says he wouldn’t recommend it because of the volcanic activity – he says you might get stuck there for an extra week or two. He says that half to two-thirds of the island is closed because of the volcano. He says that it is just really small (about 10 sq. miles) and only 4,000 people, so there just isn’t a lot do there. He said you’d definitely be “roughing it.” He said there are nice beaches and some snorkling, but he didn’t really think there was much else to do there. You might get bored, depending on your expectations. He said there aren’t any resorts, and you’d have to be in a bed and breakfast or something.
He seemed to think Guadalupe and Antigua would be a better Carribean option for you, and they are near Montserrat so you could still visit there.
If you have any more questions, let me know! I’d be happy to pass them along to the Fiance.

Thanks for the info … I’m all over the place with honeymoon ideas … I go back and forth between Hawaii, Aruba, Mexico, Curacao … I guess there are worse problems to have!

@sadiewhitecoat: I know how you feel! We changed our minds about 8 times before we finally decided on a place. Good luck!
