Since my online scam where I paid for and, sob, never ended up with a wedding dress, I’m still on the hunt. But, voila, there is light! I’m in New Zealand, which as miss veggie will attest to, has only a few, and highly expensive shops to buy wedding dresses from. But, I’m headed to Los Angeles for a convention in June, so I’m hoping to pick me up a purdy white dress while I’m there. But there are a thousand places! So puhleese, tell me your favorites! Sample sales? I’m there, places that have buy off the rack options? Yes please!
I’m already hitting up David’s bridal, but I’d love love love to find a sample sale for claire pettibone, melissa sweet, pronovias or well, anything!
If you have a favorite bridal place around LA or know somewhere that you’ve heard is great, please list it, I shall go!

I do not about LA but in San Diego I love Tour of Elegance – they usually have a small rack of sample dresses – I’m sure you could call and ask what they have there. Good luck!!

Most places will sell you their samples. Just call one or two and ask ahead of time.

Try Glamour Closet on La Brea in Los Angeles.

Some bridal magazines have regioal editions (the knot). Pick up The Knot while you’re here and check out the ads for the bridal salons. Or maybe they have that info on their website?

Glamour Closet sells samples off the rack and has a location in L.A. Encore Bridal also sells samples and second hand dresses. You can browse their inventory online and buy online. They open up their physical store in Manhattan Beach (really close to L.A. proper) only twice a month if you want to physically try dresses on.
If you’ll have a car, you can make the trek out to Upland and go to The Bridal Rack. They have a pretty good selection of samples from the designers that are carried by their main store, Deborah’s Bridal.
That’s all I’ve got. Hope it helps!

I guess the first question is what is your budget because there are a lot of places…expensive…not so expensive…middle.
1.) There is a designer outlet type place in Los Angeles called Glamour Closet. There’s also one in San Francisco (about 7 hours from L.A) so make sure you get addres to the L.A. one. You don’t need an appointment, but it’s good to get there early. All the dresses are sold as is so they have some minor issues I’m sure, but probably nothing anybody would notice. I haven’t gone yet, but I’m going to check it out soon. I keep hearing about it. I’m really excited about that one.
2.)Also, if you’re looking for a really pretty, but not so much beads and stuff kind of dress try Nicole Miller and J. Crew. I loved their selection. My budget was 1500 and I was going to chech those two places out.
3.)Also, you may want to try IBEX. It’s in downtown Los Angeles. I keep getting fliers to go there and I hear they have a good selection. There are a ton of dress places in down town if you want to park and walk around the streets looking. You may not feel comfortable walking around there because some streets can be kinda scary, so I’d find out first before you go. Daytime is safe and there are a lot of cops to ease the newbies nerves.
4.) IF you head towards Orange County, you HAVE to try Jinny’s Bridal. They have so many beautiful dresses and the prices can’t be beat. Plus the women that work there are soooo nice and helpful! It’s in Huntington Beach. About 1 hour from Los Angeles.
Wish ya luck finding the one!!! 😀

Jobyna’s in Glendale regularly holds sample sales in their second store. Just check their website or call to see when the next one is. Mon Amie in Orange County also has an outlet section in their store with lots of designer dresses sold as samples. And most other stores will sell their floor samples unless it’s a brand new 2010 dress.

@danalovely I’ve heard TERRIBLE things about IBEX. They have nightmare reviews on yelp and they cut the labels out of their dresses. Have you been yet? I’m tempted to go but at the same time I’m really hesitant because of all the scathing reviews (I mean they’re REALLY REALLY bad).

I bought my Casablanca dress at Jinny’s bridal in Huntington Beach. I saw a person with a $500 sample dress that was very cute. i dont think they have much sample dresses for sale, but should call and find out. most of their dresses are for “orders” which will come 4-6months later.
Word of advance – ALWAYS ask for discount, and offer to pay cash to keep the cost low

@Cricket1524: Did you really??? I haven’t gone. I actually just got my dress today! But I would have checked that place out if I didn’t. I’m not surprised they have a bad reputation. A lot of places in downtown may be a bit sketchy, but I’m sure if you have good luck you can find something good. I probably wouldn’t buy from there unless I was able to take it home that day. Thanks for the feedback on IBEX.
LOVE Jinny’s in Huntington Beach. I almost bought my dress there, but found an amazing one down the street at The Wedding Day in Fountain Valley. They gave me a deal when I mentioned my other dress I wanted was from Jinny’s. Hahaha. I guess they are competitors! Keep that in mind if you ever go to The Wedding Day!

Wow guys! THANK YOU so much! You’ve been so helpful, I’ve put all those stores and address into a mini excel spreadsheet (yes I am uber-geek), and I’m going to hunt each and every one of them down. I’ve got a rental car and a couple of days to spare so hopefully shouldn’t be too hard.
Hazelnut, thank you glamour closet looks great.
Ms. E, thank you! I had no idea encore bridal had a physical store, here’s hoping I’m in town when it’s open!
Danalovely, thank you! You’ve been really helpful, I have a similar budget to yours, but I’d really love to pay under 1K if I can find it. I’ll def be trying Ibex, I’ve been downtown once before so hopefully I’ll be ok! Congrats on finding your dress by the way 🙂
Meliss, thanks for the tip, over here they take it as some kind of insult if you ask to buy the sample dress, so good to know I’m ok to do so over there.
Finally getting married, so you reckon ask for discounts? I’ll give that a shot, I’ll have to work myself up to it as it’s not easy for me that’s for sure, but thanks for the tip!

If you go to Temple City, there is a street that is lined with bridal shops that offer off the rack wedding dresses. To start you can check out Oscar’s Wedding Group 9502 Las Tunas Dr, Temple City, CA 91780 and just go down the street from there. I almost bought one for $300 there.

Some good stores were La Soie Bridal in Torrance and Love Boat in Temple City, but I definitely second anya208’s message about Temple City in general. There are probably 20+ stores all within a few blocks of each other on Las Tunas, so you can go on a crazy dress trying binge all in one day. Beware that it is a Chinese area so you will receive what I like to call “Chinese service”.. but if you’re on a tight schedule, you really can’t beat Temple City!!

@anya208: I went to Oscar’s Wedding Group too! I was just there and they told me they didn’t have the dress I wanted, but they’d order it for me and it would be only $1100. I was shocked it was so reasonable!!! I’d def recommend that place. It was a hidden little treasure.
@Wellykiwi: cute lil’ name, btw. Good luck in your dress hunt! Hope you have navigation or make sure you get directions from each store to the next! I bought my dress today! 😀 hehehe. Oh and I’m sure she doesn’t mean ask directly for a discount, but try and pretend like you “love this dress so much and it’s your most favorite, but are going to have to go with the other one because they are asking for less money”. Worked for me!!! I got over $200 off. 🙂 Good luck!
