I went with cupcakes from Bakeshop in VA, but I did a regular-cake tasting with Delectable Cakery in Mt Rainier and boy was the sweet potato cake good!!
We are using Tom Gavin with D.J delights for our DJ and Sugar Bakers (holy yumminess) for our baker.
@sbharkness83: are you getting married at the Villa by Catering by Uptown??? We went to an open house there and met both!
Ive tried emailing Tom like 4 times, and he hasnt responded once! How did you find/get in touch with him??? And if you dont mind me asking, is he really expensive?
@acebride: No We are having our reception at the Maryland Science Center and the Ceremony and the Goucher Chapel
Tom Gavin was at the Wedding Expo at the convention center. We made the appointment that day, but I would suggest calling him. We are paying somthing like 1250 for 4 hours. I knwo it is expensive, but the science center is a large space to and to have the music sound good he will need alot of equiptment. People also give him rave reviews and he is apprently great at keeping the dance floor going.
Our DJ was Evan from MyDeejay (though, I've been to a wedding with anthony and he was great too!) and our cake baker was sweet in ellicot city (AMAZING). I could not recommend the two of them enough!
Call Ernie @ Invincible Entertainment. They are based out of Southern Maryland but will travel. He has done a lot of events for me.

@acebride: My SO is a pastry chef with his own cake business. He has done several wedding cakes. I will PM you his website and contact information.
@MamaMima can you PM me the same info.? I'm also looking for a cake baker but the prices are insane... is he reasonable?
If you are in DC it might be a haul. But for cakes....I cannot recommend more highly Desserts by Rita. We went to the location in Havre De Grace and the cake was phenomenal!
@acebride Sugarbakers is great, are you looking in PG county in MD since you are in DC? I have a DJ that I have worked with on several occasions Allen Burke and he is very much under your budget.
Tom and I have also worked together, he is a good DJ. I am surprised that he has not returned you call/email.

Starting to look for a DJ and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations?
We are having a 5-hr reception and I want a wide mix of music. I'm hoping to keep it below $1500 for the night, but some I've seen are more!
Who did you use?
Also, I'm starting to look for bakers. Who makes the best cakes in the MD, DC area?
