So I’m filing for a tax extension today (I’m owed money by the Fed but I always owe State)… I’m filing because I want to file my taxes when my house closes, because then I get my tax credit WAY sooner than doing an ammended tax.
I’m filing form 4868 for extension of time to file my tax return but I only mail it to the IRS gov. Will this be ok? Will the state get mad at me?

I’d check your state’s website and file an extention with them also

I’m assuming you live in Oregon, go to FORM 40-EXT, it’s highlighted blue.

Thank you everyone, but I did something bad :(. My friend’s dad told me that filing the Fed extension was enough & I didn’t have internet access by the time I got replies to this posting. So I just read your answers (the 19th) & I’m scared!! I didn’t file an extension on my State taxes & I owe like $350 (money I don’t have) & every year before I’ve owed AT THE MAX $60 so I’m kinda freaking out. Now I have to call the State gov & hope they don’t fine me to the extreme :(.

You should still file an extension now even though it is late. Unfortunately, you are going to owe some penalties (and you do need to pay the amount that is owed with the extension or you are going to have more penalities and interest). If you don’t have the money to pay it, you should talk to the state government about a payment plan.
