I had the same dilemma as you and put up an ad on Craig's list. I got nearly 50 responses within a couple of days. I think it would be worth it as long as you interview and get references before hiring!
I don't know of anyone but I will be looking for someone soon. I got a few names of NY DOCs but they are pricey and then I'm paying travel fee's.
My original thought was asking a friend but I heard horror stories so I wont go that route. With budgets being super tight, I'm with you on cheap or almost free. If you get a few names, would you be so kind as to pass them along? Maybe us CT Bees can help their business grow!
I have a good friend out of RI who is building her event planning business. She has done some beautiful work and I am thinking about asking her to help me on my day (but I'm not that organized yet...) I don't know her rates but if you want her details let me know!
Sixpence For Your Shoe in West Hartford. CT - AMAZING. They know their stuff and keep you on track. "Day of" is really at least a month before your wedding. I am loving them and they were one of the more affordable out of at least eight coordinators I considered
GL!
Thanks, I contacted Sixpence but they are already booked for May 2010. I'm still on the lookout....
If you're still looking for a DOC try www.coutureparties.com - I grew up with her and she's a wonderful person. She also does beautiful work. She might be a good fit for what you're looking for although I have no idea about her fees.
I'm working on getting my own Event Planning business started here in CT, and I'd be available if you're still looking :)
PM me if you're interested.
I have recently started a wedding planning/DOC business. PM me if interested- very reasonable and affordable since I'm just starting out...
I see this thread is old, but jules8667, if you are looking for a day of coordinator now, I have one I think is wonderful and reasonably priced. You can PMme if interested :)
I know one as well- let me know! mine is based out of Glastonbury.... PM me if interested....

Hey Ladies,
I have been kicking around the idea of getting a DOC but I just don't have the money for it. However, I also don't want to ask a family member or friend to do it and miss out on part of the day. What are you guys planning on doing in regards to this? Does anyone know anyone who's willing to work on the cheap (or dare I say it...free?)?
Thanks!
