Miss Martini booked Cly Creations - http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/10/24/new-york-wedding-photographer/
For under 4k.... I think you might want to check out Agaton Strom (Mrs. Orange used him).
Tony Yang is also affordable, but I think he's pretty much booked for 09.
I know there are tons of talented photogs out there for under 4k (I'm sorry I'm not much help because most of the Manhattan based photogs tend to be a bit pricey) -- you just gotta look. 4k is definitely a more than reasonable budget.
Good luck!
You could also look in the Philly/NJ market, since those might be lower priced? My favorite NY photographers are Susan Stripling and Angelica Glass. But I don't know what they charge . . . .
This is who we're using:
For a full day of coverage with 3-4 photographers and 1 album it was aroudn $3000
The suggestion to use a Philly area photographer is not a bad idea if you want to get more bang for your buck. I got married in that neck of the woods and my photographer was amazing! We were so happy with our pics (and he was super fast on the turn around!). His name is David Zaveloff - www.davidzaveloff.com.
I also did a bridal session with a NJ photographer named Chelo Keyes - I've gotten so many compliments on the photos she took it's bordering on ridiculous! www.chelophoto.com
chris @ threshold visions - SO nice and professional. photojournalistic style.

annabel @ belathee photography - does gorgeous work, in the style you like, flexible and does NOT try to upsell!
We are using Impressions Photography. She did my friends wedding this past summer and the pictures were very different than anyone elses that I had seen. She has been really great to work with. They are based out of Princeton, NJ, but she does travel all over.... she agreed to to do our engagement pictures for us in NYC at no additional charge.
He is absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I'm a photographer, and I very much admire his work. He does a great job, and for as amazing of a job that he does, he's fairly inexpensive :)

Ladies, I spent 4 months looking at every photographer in NY, I went through the list on New York magazine, talked to friends, and finally found the most amazing photographer- JULIA NEWMAN....she is so talented, sweet, and really listens to what you want. Message me if you would like to talk to me about my experience with her..I just got back my engagement pictures and love them! Ps. she is also reasonably priced!!
@Miss Pie: Jasongroup photo is the best. He did our wedding and was great.
@QueenBecca037: I was just coming here to recommend Ryan Brenizer.
Someone on this board posted her wedding pics shot by him and I was soooo blown away that I actually follow him on facebook now.
@Theresa90405: He is great. I just do not know how he was able to get some of those shots. He reccomended the Florist (Bloom) and the makeup artist (Khush Singh) as well.
http://www.jasongroupp.com/ just check him out.
Here's a list of some that I found with weddzilla's vendor search:
Or you can go to weddzilla and post a price quote.. it's really easy I promise:
1. Log-in/sign up (free)
2. Go to "posts" on your home page
3. Pick your category (photography) & hit "create post"
4. Put in your budget & if you want, a little about what you're looking for.
5. Sit back & relax- the vendors check these posts daily & give you quotes/their info. You can pick your best match! It's so easy & stress-free, and how I found so many things (my venue, my cake, my dj, & my invitations!)
-Hope this helps you as much as it helped me!
EWww! We loved ours! She was amazing. Stephanie Reinish. She is young and fun. Here is our save-the-date.

Excellent NY/NJ Wedding Photographer and Videographer
I'm a little late to the party here (forgive the pun) but since this thread has grown I figure Id throw some information here that might be helpful.
Multiple friends have used Emil Bartsche and his photography|videography studio out of Point Pleasant, New Jersey called The Contemporary Image.
They have multiple photographers and a videographer, they are very profressional and accomodating and have flexible, custom pricing for pretty much every budget.
Good Luck and Warmest Regards to all

Hi weddingbee hive!
This is my first post, and I hope I can get as much input in this as I can. I got engaged this past October, and Mr. Pie and I are planning a summer09 wedding! Thankfully, we've already set the date and place, now we're getting down to the other 'big stuff'.
Can you give me some of good photographers in the NJ/NY area? We prefer to have a photographer near us so that we can avoid the travel fees. We are allocating a somewhat tight budget for photography- <4k, and we have had some interest in the following photographers: cly creations, photovisions (steve belner), tiffany atlas. Any thoughts on them?
Also, our styles are definitely ones that are photojournalistic minus the cheesy poses and staged group pictures. I would kind of like a wedding album that looked like an Urban Outfitters/Anthropologie photography-- use of sunlight, high contrast, and other photography phrases I'm not aware about.
Your input would be greatly appreciated!
Help this wedding-newbee out!
