YES. After high school, I lost about 40 pounds. My mom insists on keeping my embarassing high school pictures framed all around her house. I understand that it's a "mom" thing but it drives me completely nuts. I was so embarassed to bring my fiance over for the first time!
My sister did the same thing to me. What is with them. I was watching this DVD she did the other day from a few years ago (slideshow of pictures). She has all kinds of flattering pictures of herself and hardly any of when I looked good. They were mostly when I had a ton of baby weight from my two pregnancies and hardly any from before or after I had lost it. It really kind of peeved me when I was watching it.
I think that a lot of times, other people don't even think about the way their friends/family look. I'm guilty of this. I'll shuffle through group photos and find the one where I look the best- not noticing till later that a friend had food on her face, or that someone else didn't look their best.
My photographer told me a story too where she'd picked out and edited all these photos of a couple only to find out that the bride really hated this specific expression on her face - one that the photog thought was flattering. Same with moms and relatives - they may like some random expression or clothing choice of yours, which you hated - but they're gonna frame that photo anyway!!
At least with the weightloss issue, you're lookin' healthier now! it's not the other way around, where you used to be a skinny-mini but now you're a little chubbier. I think that's more embarrassing - at least for me.
Totally agree with MaryJane. I think we all look for the most flattering pictures of ourselves without looking at the other people in the picture or how they look. lol! I know im guilty of it as well. I also dread looking at pictures from years ago, even if its just to shudder at my horrible fashion choices!
I try and be really concious of this!
I can't count how many times I have asked a friend to take a REALLY unflattering pic of me off facebook and it's embarrassing just having to do that!
I lost 40 lbs after college (I gained freshman 30 instead of 15)!! I do hate the old fat pictures, but honestly I have one on my FRIDGE to this day! I'm proud of the accomplishment I made and I don't want to go back to that, so I keep it on there as a reminder! ESPECIALLY during wedding time!
I'm exactly the opposite.
Do to a health issue I've gained 70 pounds in two years - and can't lose it no matter what I do.
So. I can't escape my skinny memories - meaning that old friends go 'whoa!' when they see me.
Oh yes! I'm the girl whose weight is constantly fluxuating but in HS I was about 30 lbs heavier than I am now. No idea how the change happened but I'll go with it. Anyway, the pics are mortifying because they're everywhere. Even on facebook, yikes! Its something I don't mind too much anymore though because at least I look better now ya know? As opposed to, "oh wow, she's even heavier now!"
I was also the one who lost weight when I moved out of my parents house! I lost like 20 lbs or so ... not too much but enough to notice I'm really much thinner than I was. When I look back at pictures I'm like AHHHH =) lol. I was just a little girl though ... so it was normal.
How fattening is my parents house ... and fiances parents house haha. It's like junk food, candy and cookies + cake galore.
@Lish: I'm the exact same way! I've gained about 70 pounds as well in the past few years, so its definitely my skinny pictures that haunt me. Whenever people that I haven't seen in awhile see me, they just look shocked and horrified!
I'm working on losing the weight now, so hopefully I'll be skinny and healthy again soon and the pictures take of me now will be the ones haunting me. :P
Facebook has been awful lately with a whole bunch of high school friends posting pictures of our school days. I have lost 65 lbs since my freshman year of college, and it sort of sucks that the fat pictures get posted every once in a while. On the other hand, I am proud of my accomplishment and that experience of being overweight is partly responsible for the healthy person I aspire to be today.
Yes! When I was in high school I lost about 40 or 50 lbs. So I despise pictures of me from before (I'm 5', so that was a lot of weight.) I also had a "fat" year my junior year of high school where I gained a little of it back, but I've stayed constant besides that. I loathe when anyone uses a picture from that year!

I'm about 5'1 and over the course of 2.5 years lost 25 pounds. So as you might assume it's an OBVIOUS difference, people almost don't recognize me sometimes. I don't want to erase my past, but I can't seem to get away from all my old 'fat' pictures. My sister used a particularly unflattering one on her wedding website recently.. thanks sis...
Anyone else have this problem? I guess I shouldn't be complaining since I've accomplished so much, but it still bothers me when friends/family 'showcase' those old dreaded photos.
