Have any of you told yourself you are not going to test until you've missed a period? I am on my first cycle NTNT and would LOVE to test soon (i'm about 10 DPO) but am not letting myself until I actually miss my period!

Anyone else out there trying to go this route too? Its hard!

    Hey!

We did. My period's never on time, usually a couple days late. Cycles range from 32 to 40 days. So my husband and I decided from the beginning that we would not test until we were at least a few days late.

It's definitely harder and easier to do this way. On the one hand you have less disappointment of seeing a negative strip. On the other hand you just keep waiting and waiting. For me the thought of waiting for AF to show up was much easier than seeing a big fat no (figuratively speaking) on a stick every single month.

Because of that we only POAS twice during TTC. Once during cycle 7 and the second time during cycle 9 which was a big fat YES! :)

    Congrats and good luck!

I usually wait until AF has gone missing to test, but my cycles vary a little each time,so I can have an idea of when Im due on,but it could be a couple of days either way. I like waiting to test because if AF does show up I can pretend to myself that its just a normal month,we didnt really try too hard etc, instead of testing before and getting my hopes up and convincing myself that its too early lol.

I am holding my ground. I only bought one test and I refuse to test until 15DPO. I'm on 11DPO and it's getting hard. But I started getting bad cramps today so I think I'm just PMS'ing. This is my first month actually ovulating so I am starting to realize how had the TWW is. Good luck!

I'm going to try and wait! AF is due on Monday, which is the same day I'm due to test AND the same day I have a diagnostic ultrasound. SO, needless to say, if I could wait until AFTER AF is due (Tuesday), then it'd be a much less stressful day, haha.

But....its so tempting just to POAS tomorrow or Saturday and get it over with.

This is what we did, because I didn't want to be obsessed with it. But also because I didn't want to know if I had a chemical pregnancy - usually you only find out if you test early and I thought that would be something I wouldn't need to know about.

The only time I tested early was when we were hosting a party and I wanted to see if I should be careful about drinking.  I was pretty sure I wasn't and I got a negative test.....only to find out a week later (3 days after missed period) that I was actually preggers!  Luckly I was so busy running around at the party that I barely drank anything :)

Hehehe, all I can say is good luck :) I thought the same way as you when DH and I started trying...but then the first month came and I HAD to know lol! I only had to go through two tests before I got my BFP, so it wasn't too expensive, but look online for coupons if you decide to cave in!

@ColeandAmyT:  I have a few dollar store tests calling my name. I'm supposed to start Tuesday, so i'm TRYING to hold out until at least Monday! I need to get DH to hide them from me or something!

    @mommytobee27:  CONGRATS!!!!!!!!  :)

@coachwife:  I decided to not buy any more tests.  It's soooo disappointing to see Big Fat Negatives, I just can't deal with that anymore!  So this coming cycle, I am going to wait until I (hopefully) miss my period before testing :)

Ok so yesterday I said I was going to wait, but boy is this so much harder than I thought!

I have every symptom of the worst PMS possible. So I keep telling myself it's just PMS and I can't wait for AF to arrive so I can get it over with. But a part of me still has hopes as my temps rose again on 12DPO. But I think it's safe to assume that cramps are not a sign :(

I told myself that... But then every month we were TTC, when it got to be a few days before my period was due, I would start taking tests. (When I got my BFP, it was 12 DPO. Days 10 & 11 DPO I had BFN.)

I will wait after a missed AF.  Testing early caused even more heartache for me.

Maybe im cheap but pg test are expensive and I have only 2 pack. So waiting until missed af to test and backup test to confirm. If i feel the urge to test before I use opk!!

I'm due for AF tomorrow, so I am trying to wait.  I almost tested this morning.  Hopefully I can be strong!  I have a couple in my drawer at home, and I think I can hear them calling me from here, (I'm at work)!  LOL!  *fingers crossed for all of us*

I did it! I didn't test until after AF was due. I found that the months I tested early I stressed my self out too much.

LAME!  I was really hoping this was the month, but now I am getting period-like cramping, so it looks like we'll be trying again next cycle. :(

I would have, but I wanted a beer for the superbowl so I decided to test (1 day early of AF) it was Positive --- much better than any beer I could have enjoyed!

@miss apricot dont count it out until AF is here --- this was the one time I swore I wasn't pregnant -- i had typical day before AF symptons and I honestly thought I was wasting a test.. but here I am 2 weeks later, and 5w5d pregnant!

@snake:  Thanks!  I won't give up hope until AF makes an appearance or doesn't, then!  lol...I actually was thinking I was pregnant, because I've had a couple symptoms.  Including breast tenderness, (TMI, sorry!), which I have never had before, even near my period.

    Me.

It's our first month TTC, I have PCOS and I am on metformin. I was told the chances of miscarriage are greater for me than normal. I am not overweight at all, but still.... :(

I have been looking up charts on Fertility Friend where I chart my temps and I have seen too many BFPs  at <12DPO where AF showed up in normal time or a few days later.

I understand that a lot of us would like to or need to know as soon as possible for different reasons... and that is okay, it's everyone's own choice.

I just know that it would break my heart to get a BFP with a super sensitive pregnancy test before my period was due and then get my period a couple days later.

So I guess it's a way to protect myself from more heartache.

It's hard though not to test! :) I think about it a lot.

Also, I only have a $10 test and a $17 digital so I try to keep the cost in mind too.

The expiry date is Aug 2012 on the digital, I hope I get to use it before! :D

Best of luck and baby dust to all!

I'm pretty new to the game, but for me last month it was easier to see no line show up than it would have been to see the first signs of my period, so I tested at about 12DPO. After getting a BFN, and being prepared for it, I felt I could resign myself to getting my period, and at least be relieved that at least it was a regular cycle, and that I was learning my PMS symptoms, etc.

I'm now around 7DPO in my second month, and will just see how I go this month. I'm sure after months of trying that seeing BFNs gets harder and harder. I guess it just depends which sign you'd prefer to get.

RE: chemical pregnancies - I'd promised myself that I wouldn't get too excited about a BFP if it showed before my period was due, and that I'd test again after it was due before I went making a doctors appointment. I was going to take it as a sign that at least our 'bits' were working and or timing was right.

Didn't even get a chance to POAS this time - AF showed up a day early. On to cycle 13 of TTC...I'll stick with not testing until the end.

It was exciting the first couple of times to take a test with the notion that there was a possibility it was positive...

But now that we are a few months in, I'm not wasting the money on a bunch of tests until there's a bonafide reason, like a late period.

Luckily, so far my cycles have been like clockwork, so I've never had a missed period when I've expected it.

I never had to test early or wait for AF to be late.  I usually started spotting at 8-9dpo and I knew I was out.  This cycle I took Clomid to help with the spotting and I managed to wait until 13dpo.  I wanted to wait til I was late but I had a few symptoms and a high temp that I knew I'd be wondering about all day if I didn't test.
