we're taking a mini-moon in a location that's close to Portland. If we didn't do it now, we'd probably never be able to do it!
That sucks you can't take a few days off :( Mr. bearcub & I have been saving our vacation time all year - we're taking a total of 16 days off, which amounts to about a month!
Maybe you guys can do a longish weekend thing the following weekend?
@bearcub - Maybe! Problem is, we've got school 5 days a week, plus work of course. It's mid-semester for us - midterms roll in a few weeks after our wedding. Summer would have been the best time for us to have a wedding, schedulewise, but we really wanted a fall or winter anniversary. Sept is really the latest to do it without interfering with midterms and projects - stupid school, controlling our lives. lol. We knew when we picked the date that a honeymoon this fall was out of the question... but we'll be SO happy to go come next summer! Gives us a little more time to save money, too.
We had a mini-moon in Grand Cayman and missed 2 days of school after our wedding. It was a really nice break from reality, even though it was short. Neither of us ever really skip school (law school and dental school--skipping is a no-no) but we just couldn't stand the thought of going back on Monday! Of course you should do whatever is best for you, but I would encourage you to play hookey for at least one day! :)
I actually don't know what we will be doing (since its a year out)! It will be three weeks after I finish undergrad and while I would really like to do something small, I'm not sure we will be able to. I'll need to find a job or if I manage to line one up I don't want to be gone too much right after I start. Ugh, it would be so much easier if I knew what I wanted to do and just went straight to grad school that fall, instead of deciding to take a year to figure things out.
@kitten - we'll be playing hookey the whole WEEK Of the wedding
We did a minimoon to Joshua Tree (we live in LA) and loved it! It was beautiful and relaxing and fun! I wouldnt have traded those few days of relaxing - not talking to ffriends or family - not wedding worrying - hiking with my new husband - champagne on the deck. it was perfect for us.
Ms maryJane - can you just take monday off? One morning of sleeping in for the newley weds!

Mr. MJ and I are getting married in September and honeymooning probably next June. We will NOT be taking a mini-moon or anything. Just getting married, then it's back to work and school on Monday. We are both full time employees and full time students, and we'll be saving our vacation time for our honeymoon (and using some around the wedding since it's on a week day). Anyone else not having a break between wedding and reality?
