We're the 4th (Saturday) of that weekend! I love the 3 day weekend. We also considered the 25th but you never know with the weather in NE Ohio so we figured the earlier in September the better! Plus with so many people traveling we figured they'd appreciate the extra day off.
I'm getting married this year on Labor Day weekend... And, it worked out great for us because we were able to negotiate more with vendors on that weekend.
If you provide folks with enough notice, it shouldn't be a problem that you're having it on a holiday weekend. What's nice about the Sunday is folks will have Monday off too.
That's exactly our thinking. I just worry a little since there's a wedding there the day before---we'd have to do the rehearsal earlier and people may not be in town yet. But then again we are having a small wedding party (3 BMs & 3 GM) so it may not be an issue. Plus, there is a hot air balloon festival that weekend so any people who come from out of town will be able to go to that if they want. They may not, but it's a fun option for them :)
Is Labor Day weekend still considered "summer" or is it starting to get into fall? I'm trying to come up with colors for that time.
We're teh 4th - lots of OOTers to give them ample travel time.
It's not really summer or fall, IMO, so you're not tied to traditional color palettes. I am a big fan of not doing seasonal colors anyway. We're doing navy and white with pink and purple accents.
Oh Mermaid those are pretty. FIs favorite color is a dark green so I'm sure that will be our main color, but I'm thinking of throwing in a yellow or orangish color or something. Not sure yet though. Trying to figure out what would go best with this place:
www.cathedralpines.net and then click on "Community"
Any ideas, ladies?
There seems to be baby blue in small doses in those pictures. That would be lovely with dark green! I dont know if you're set on colored flowers, but I have seen some beautiful green and white bouquets that would also go very well with that. Not that you need to coordinate with your venue, but if you want to, there are definitely options!
Very true. I don't need to coordinate, but I want to use the look of the venue to really go well with everything we are doing. I picked the location because I love the lodge look, the wood, pine trees. Yeah! AND, baby blue or some kind would be pretty and just so happens that my e-ring has aquamarines and sapphires as sides stones so that's fun!
We're getting married Saturday the 5th. I didn't even know it WAS Labor Day weekend until FI's mom told me! hahahah
We're getting married on Sunday, Sept. 5th. We thought it would be a perfect weekend for out of town guests and no one will have to work on Monday since it is Labor Day. Also, our reception rental fee is almost half the price of a Saturday night and we get to celebrate our anniversaries on a long weekend every year!
We are getting married on the 4th next year. = ) It has a great ring to it, and it will be nice for our oot guests!
We're getting married on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend this year. This worked perfectly because we have a lot of OOT guests (and bridal party!). We planned it like this to give guests Saturday and Monday to travel, without having to take any extra time off. (Our OOT guests are all coming early and staying for a week anyway though--oh well, we tried to be thoughtful!)
We are getting married Labor Day Sunday of next year. It helped us save money on our venue but it's making the photographer search harder as so many are already booked!!! Wish we would have started looking earler.
We're getting married Sunday, September 5th of Labor Day.
As our Coordinator at the hall told us, its the same as a Saturday! But it also was cheaper!
Only problem now is that our wedding is in a touristy town during the summer months, so booking hotel rooms might be tough!
We are getting married September 4th, 2010, the Saturday before Labor Day and I JUST read in a bridal magazine about how rude it is to take the holiday weekend away from guests! I mean, there's nothing we can do now anyway, our money is in and everything, but I'm wondering what you guys think of that? I didn't think it was rude, I thought it would make it easier for guests to make it? Maybe I've had too much of the bride kool aid :)
mrscingle2b, you're in Cleve??! I am too and we're getting married on the same day :)
I've read that too about holiday weekends----i.e. it is rude to have a wedding on a holiday weekend. Honestly, if you have a lot of OOTers then I don't see the problem. This gives them time to travel. If they were wanting to go OOT then why not to a fun event like your wedding?! NOW, if the wedding was on Easter weekend, Thanksgiving, New Year's, Christmas, something like that, then yeah, it wouldn't work and I doubt many people would come. Don't worry about it. If your guests want to come they will be there and it won't matter what day--except for those huge holidays.
I read that too but I agree that Labor Day is different than other holiday weekends. And if people are upset about missing a 3 day weekend to come to our wedding, then don't come!
I'm also getting married that weekend. Our wedding will be on Saturday (9/4/10) to allow a full weekend of activites. That way we make up for stealing their long weekend! Plus, we're getting married in Florida, so for some, it will be a vacation.
I am also getting married that weekend, 9/3/10. I thought it would be better for guests plus labor day isn't that big of a holiday (what are ppl gonna miss a bbq big deal) :)
Yes! We are on September 5th for that exact same reason - so people from out of town can travel back carefully and safely (without having to leave the reception early to do so). Also, we can treat it like a Saturday night for most people without the Saturday night price tag :) Oh, and in my area we have fireworks that night too for the holiday... so every 7 years we'll have fireworks on our anniversary! :)
Ruby Falls - how exciting! where in Cleveland are you? We're on the west side in Lwood!
I am getting married on Sunday September 5th. I have also read it is rude to have a wedding on a holiday weekend, but I disagree with our date. I don't think it's rude since people will know 9 months in advance when we send out save the dates out. I am actually glad we were able to save money with our caterer and allow people more time to travel.
mrscingle2be and rubyfalls---I am also in Cleveland! Oh and I live in Lwood mrscingle:) Where are you guys getting married??!
We got married on the 5th this year. It worked out well for guests coming in from out of town. The only issue we had was that the city we got married in (Toronto) had so many long weekend festivities going on that traffic was horrible. Almost everyone was late and our ceremony started 30 minutes late. I was there on time ;) So my only advice would be to see what might be going on in the town your getting married and let guests know if they have to allow for extra time to get there and to find parking.
My family is from southern Wisconsin and my FI's is from Texas, so we'll have lots of OOT guests. We're getting married on the 5th next year so that our guests would be able to travel and not have to take a day off of work. I don't think that labor day weekend is really a big deal for most people, so I don't feel bad about choosing it. I feel better knowing that I'm not forcing someone to use a vacation day.
we are looking at 9/5/10 as a possible date and will be having most of the guests from out of town. I don't think its rude at all becuase people get to travel and it's not like its thanksgiving or christmas wedding.
Jay - Our C is at St. Luke's on Bunts and Clifton and our R is at the 100th Bomb Group by the airport. What about you?
We are getting married on Sun the 5th too!!!! Our original date was the 25th but we decided on the 5th because we were not required to have a minimum number of guests or be charged a "minimum" for a saturday wedding and also due to the fact that we have a lot of out of town guests which will let them travel and not have to take time from work/school. We also get cheaper rates due to it being on a sunday :)
Everyone is happy with our date and everyone gets off for the holiday on Monday...
We're planning a September 4th wedding in North Carolina! I was a little worried about having a wedding on a holiday weekend but i'm glad to see we're not alone!
that's exactly why we're getting married on 9/5/10..i have a lot of family that have to travel to get here. this way they can travel later if they can't get off work..and still have monday to recoop. Even though its a holiday weekend, there are still some Sunday "offdate" discounts.
wahooo for labor day weekend 2010 weddings!!
We are doing Sept 4th - we have lots of OOT guests, and its a semi-destination wedding so they have lots of time to travel, and the folks who are teachers and law enforcement will have that weekend off :)
We did Sunday of Labor Day weekend this year and it worked out fantastic. Our wedding was 7 hours away and the extra day that weekend made it easy for our guests to travel without having to take extra time off. Quite a few stayed a day or two longer just to make it a mini vacation. I couldn't be happier with our choice to have it that weekend.
We're doing the 5th too! We wanted an evening wedding and after learning the difference in price between Sat rates vs. Sunday - we really had no choice but to make it on a holiday weekend. We have a lot of OOT guests - including most of the bridal party so our reception's at a hotel to make it easier on our guests. Party's over? You can post-party at the lobby bar, or just head right up to your room.
I don't think it's rude to be married on Labor Day weekend - it's not like it's Thanksgiving or Easter or anything. We almost did NYE but didn't want to wait that long. I will admit it takes a little more planning. I didn't want to send out Save-the-dates but now we kinda' have to. I think I'm going to do something simple & send our save the dates as Christmas cards… 2 birds with 1 stone, ya know?
Were getting married on Sat Sept 4, 2010. We are really excited. Its still summer enough that you can use summer colors and its still really warm in California. We can't wait!!
We're pondering it! : ) Wouldn't be until 2012, but we're thinking of the labour day weekend. I'm thinking of doing it either on the Friday and then we can have the rest of the weekend as our honeymoon, or we'd do it Saturday or Sunday. I wonder which day would have the least people crowding up the public park we're thinking of using for our venue....
same here - sept 4th next year - its a semi desination wedding and there are lots of OOT guests - PERFECT. and labor day isnt a "real" holiday so no complaints or else just dont come! LOL

Is anyone getting married on Labor Day weekend? We are thinking about Sunday, the 5th. That way people can travel and not really need to take vacation. We are also looking at the 25th (Saturday). Haven't decided yet....but I'm also waiting for the venue's coordinator to return from her vacation.
