You’re correct – the pills you take during the week of your period are basically just “reminder” pills, and there are no hormones in them – you’re fine to miss them.

And I would use a back-up form for the next week or so – you never know how quickly your body will adjust to the new time, and you really can’t be too careful with these things!

You’re right on the first one, the green one’s are placebos (sugar pills) and your body won’t miss them if you don’t take them.  I never take mine, it’s just to keep you in the habit of taking the pills.

You don’t need to use a back-up birth control method to switch to a new time if you waited until you started a new pack to do so.  Since you’ve been off the pills for a week anyway, your body doesn’t remember what time you were taking the pills during your last pack anyway!  The reason you have to take them at the same time every day is because one pill keeps you covered for 24 hours.  Your body doesn’t get “used to” taking the pill at a certain time, it’s just that the hormone doesn’t last any longer than 24 hours.

The last week is the placebo week, so no, you don’t need to take it. It’s just there so you remember to start your new pack.

And you don’t need to use backup if you switch times at the beginning of a new pack. Obviously it couldn’t hurt, but I agree with the PP. Your body isn’t going to remember what time you were taking hormones before since you were off of them for a week for the placebos.

Yes, you are still covered during the placebo week. You should go see your Dr. if you still have questions like these.

@ashleykaye15: no, there’s no harm in that… except that after you take it at 5 pm, you have to take it the next night at 5 pm as well.

@ashleykaye15: If you vary by more than about 30 minutes in taking the pill day to day, you increase the risk of ovulating that month, thus increasing the risk of pregnancy. It goes in depth about the time frames in the drug info given with the prescription. THey recommend less than 2 hour difference, my doctor, who I discussed this with at length, suggested 30 mins or less difference, as she has seen many peope take the pill every day, but more than 30 mins off/less than 2 hours off on some days and get pregnant.
