The town we are getting married in rolls up pretty early. Our reception will end at 11:30 and we are staying at a different hotel from most guests. We will be wanting to be alone by that time! :P
I voted other. We have our reception venue until 2am, (plus another hour for clean up). Our group of people tend to stay and party it up until the end. So after that there's really no need for an afterparty. The reception will be the party. It was very important to both of us that our reception really felt like a fun party and not like just a dinner and light dancing.
I'm sure we'll play it by ear, but it's very likely that we'll just want to go enjoy the suite and each other after the reception winds down.
There will be an after-party, just not one that anyone else is invited to.
Wow! I’m really in the minority here. There will be no rest for the weary on my wedding night, I know that already. Our crew (fam included) is pretty big on late nights. We’re not rowdy, it’s just that we’re used to staying up into the wee hours. It usually means a few beers, some apps or other simple things to nosh on & maybe a few cousins with guitars and a few Irish songs. We went to a wedding this past weekend where we went to the hotel bar until it closed then hung out in a common area until about 5am. I think by the end of the night there were about 20 of us. I went to bed around 5 but the bride & groom were still there.
The same has happened at past weddings & I’m guessing it’ll happen at ours. Our reception is in a hotel as well. Reception’s over at 11pm, the bar closes at 2am (booo CT rules) and FI is even thinking of renting a conference room for afterward.
We are having a lot of people come in from out of town and we wanted to be able to spend time with them instead of just leave before the reception is over. We aren't going on our honeymoon until April (NYE wedding), so we don't have to leave and go somewhere right away.
I know we're having one bc our friends are a bunch of parties and also bc I know I'm not going to want my wedding to be over! This way I can extend the fun a few more hours and like others have said, I won't be drinking that much during the wedding so I'd definitely enjoy some time hanging out with friends and enjoying a few beers... We're also having a brunch the next day for all out of towners, woof, now that I think about it, it's going to be one hell of a weekend! Better rest up now :)
