My fiance and I have a running celebration with rainbow cake. Its kind of been a thing for us since our first date and for birthdays every since. We would really like to have a rainbow cake for our wedding, but I was wondering if any of you had asked a baker for a rainbow cake before? I’m worried about how happy they’re going to be creating several different colored layers. Have any of you done this, what was your experience?

I am not having a rainbow cake but a member of my family makes wedding cakes. I asked her for you if this would make extra work. She said no because it is usually the same amount of flavours and mixture as a usual wedding cake. All she has to do is separate the batter and colour it differently so it’s not much extra work.

Not sure where you’re located, but in Aus the Cheesecake Shop does a brilliant rainbow cake! Each layer is actually a different flavour, and the whole thing is massive!

RestlessOptimism: I haven’t asked for one but I went into a cake shop in town and they already had one made that you could get slices from. It looks great – very vibrant colours.

Follow your cake dreams! You can for sure find someone to make it for you- just find a great reference pic and start emailing people!

And if you could, please have an option for us guests who can’t have food coloring?

OK so I just looked up some stuff b/c I couldn’t get a vision of a rainbow cake, but HOW COOL?? There are so many ways of interpreting it!
Love the rainbow hidden beneath the white frosting or fondant. What a surprise!!

@Fumblebee, thank you so much I am relieved to know it won’t be added stress to the baker we choose!
Thank you everyone for the replies! I am looking forward to finding the baker who can make this rainbow cake of our dreams!

we had a rainbow cake at our wedding, but it wasn’t the kind that had different colored tiers, it was all the colors swirled together.
a friend of my family has a small cake making business and she made my cake. i actually had to tell her how to make it (i make rainbow cupcakes all the time) because she had never done it before, lol.

They’re in the business of making money, so I’m sure they’ll cater to whatever ideas you might have. Such a cool idea, though.
