Sorry if I’ve done this posting thing incorrectly! I’ve wondered a few times about brides who sew their own dresses and lightly thought of doing so myself when the time comes. It of course would depend on if the cost at the end would make it worth it and, of course, if I feel my skill is high enough.
Have any of you sewn/thought about sewing your own dress? I noticed a DIY bustle tutorial, so has anyone modified/thought about modifying their gown themselves? If there are any pictures I’d love to see them!

I wish I had the talent and experience to do it!

I sewed my original gown (but am not going to wear it because we are getting married at a registry office).
Let me talk you through the saga! First dress, (below) Didn’t really work out. I wasn’t in love with it…
Second dress… A Reem Acra copy.
I think I did pretty darn well with this one! In fact, I loved it…
Buuuuut… It took a LOT of work, a LOT of trial and error and LOT of frustration.
Fabric costs will depend on what you use. High quality satins and silks? $$$ Or cheap cotton $.
Was it worth it? Yes and no. It is a beautiful dress that I am very proud of, but I don’t think I could do it without my (seamstress) mother.

I LOVE the top on the second one. Both are beautiful and impressive, but that second top is so pretty and delicate looking. How long have you been sewing?
I’m hoping if I do decide to give wedding dress making a shot I’ll have the talent to do so. Hopefully for my senior year in college I’ll be able to get a job in the costume department in our theater.

My mom and I are considering making a reception dress. It’s just something we mentioned off hand though, so who knows where that will go!
