Yes! We're going to Disney World
. We're making a road trip out of it & stopping in Savannah for two days & maybe in Tennessee to go camping (we both have two weeks off)! We too were going to go to the Carribean originally, but we moved the wedding date up to September and we don't want to risk our honeymoon with storm season (plus moving the date means we'll have less time to save!).
My FI and I will being going to Pagosa Springs Colorado! We wanted to go to Estes Park in Colorado, but the timeshare his parents gave us were already all booked up there. But Pagosa I hear is nice. There are day trip train rides along the Rio Grand and along the Rocky Mountains. There is lots of spas, natural outdoor hot springs, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, etc. A lot to do for people who love the out doors. We have been to the beach so many times that we thought we would do something diff. Plus Ive always wanted to see Colorado and its a little diff from your normal honeymoon.
Yes.....we also had grand plans of going to a really new & exciting location--Bali, Greece, the options were endless! But budget and time were more limited than we had planned, so we ended up deciding to do the timeshare thing too--in Vegas baby. We have a really nice place to stay at, and there is lots of cool stuff to do in Vegas, so we should still have a good time. Must say I am jealous of people who do get to do it big, but hopefully we will get to go someplace else within the year.
Possibly! FI is planning everything, so I have no idea what his plans are yet, but I know that our budget for the honeymoon is very meager, so we may be limited to the US. I'm crossing my fingers for either Disneyworld or California!
FH and I live overseas and travel frequently, so we have decided to stay local when we go home for our wedding this summer (i.e. driving distance). Our wedding venue is in upstate New York, so after the wedding we are thinking of going further up North to Ithaca (a place I love in the summertime) and staying at a B&B there or possibly going up even further to Montreal.
Honestly, there are so many places beautiful places right in the US! I don't know why exotic beach has become the standard honeymoon setting...maybe after being away for so long I just appreciate the beauty the US has to offer much more!
@Min...Oh my gosh....you are really going to Pagosa Springs?????? I am from there! My jaw dropped when I saw you were going there because whenever I tell people where I'm from they are always like, "Uh, where?" lol If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. You'll love Pagosa! It's such a great town!
We too had all these amazing dreams of the carribean... St. Lucia to be exact. Then my fiance was layed off from his job, twice! the last time right after Christmas, and now he's a full time student- so I've set my sites on Key West, FL!! ... and I'm really excited about it! My fiance has never been anywhere tropical, so I still wanted him to have that same kind of experience, just for a lot less money!! I've picked out a little b&b and we're just gonna kick back and still get to see some beautiful water :)
@JuneBride- you will have to go to Broadway at the Beach! Ripleys aqarium is there and all kinds of shopping!!
@mtnbridenc - that's just it - i need suggestions on what to do! where to go! :)
like i said, i went there when i was 7 - my grandparents owned a condo out there (before hurricane andrew destroyed it in 92 i think?...) and honestly i don't remember that much about it! lol
i know he really wants to go fishing in the ocean and I want to go parasailing...possibly snorkling? not sure if they do that that far north...
We're going to Seattle. It's a distance from us, but we are using our JetBlue rewards tickets to get there and back.
We're going to California! We're going to Napa/Sonoma from June 27-July 1, San Francisco July 1-3, and then wrapping it up in San Diego from July 3-6. I'm so excited!
Oh yes! We are honeymooning in the exotic state of Michigan! Just a hop, skip and jump from lovely Detriot, known for it's strong cultural influence and unique city dwellers! We are looking forward ot waking up every morning to see if our cars have been stolen, or broken into---you can't beat that element of surprise!! In addition to great views of trailer parks and strip malls, we have the luxury of hearing sirens all night long...as we consumate our union!
So to answer your question, yes, we're staying domestic for our non-exsistant honeymoon! Straight back to work, and REAL LIFE for FI and me!
@ VirginiaMarie- you are cracking me up!!!!
@ Duck35- We went to Disney in September and had SO much fun!! You guys will have a great time!! Do you know what resort you are staying at?
We are also staying in the states. We live in the Louisville KY area, and will drive over to Maryland and then to the Deleware, coast and then we will take a ferry from Lewes DE to Cape May NJ, on to NYC, then on to New Haven/Old Mystic CT, then over to Manchester VT and then on to Niagra Falls. After Niagra we will start heading back home.
I always though that I would go out of the states for my honeymoon, but I think that we will save some dollars and will see a lot of beautiful and interesting things. I am not a huge fan of laying out on the beach, as I love museums, history and nature. I am super excited!
We're taking the cart before the horse due to the schedule of our kids going back to school and also b/c of our minister being out of the country during the month of July, so we are honeymooning at our resort before the wedding in Pensacola Beach, at Portofino Island Resort. We'll chillax a week before we say I do, then go back home and send our little sweethearts back to school.
It's so pretty there, we vacationed there last year also. Water is so clear, like the caribbean, and sand white as snow. Beautiful pools, and the skyhomes are amazing!
Either in late fall of this year or early winter, we'll take a four day honeymoon to our original site of lust, St. Lucia.
Tonya2010 - Yes, I'm all about Disney in low season! We're leaning towards Disney's Port Orleans French Quarters. We've been to Disney before, but we've never stayed in one of the resorts so it should be great
. You're road trip looks like a lot of fun too, we almost decided on Niagra Falls ourselves.
@Ducks, September is the perfect time of year for Disney. The longest we had to wait in line for any ride was probably 30 minutes. Most ride wait times were around 5-10 min though. I can't imagined ever going again during peak season. I have heard a lot of good things about Port Orleans French Quarter, and it is very reasonably priced. We stayed at Coronado Springs and loved it! I did a lot of investigating and found that Southwest Vaction website had the very best deals. We flew, but I think that you can just book the hotel, park tickets etc. through them as well. Also, not sure if you have ever done the meal plan before, but it is wonderful! You can also book that through SW. Have fun!!
We're debating between Key West (we know we love it there, and will know how to do it right) or an all-inclusive in Mexico.
I really wanted Paris, but that's just not happening money-wise. :/
Oh, by the way... for a Disney Orlando honeymoon I highly recommend Saratoga Springs if you are DVC members or know someone who is. They have a spa there and you can walk to downtown Disney easily. It's pretty much my favorite Disney hotel, tied with Old Key West.
we're staying in the US too ... going to the north coast of california. neither of us have been there before and it was just the best cost/time effective way for us to go. i'm super excited about it!
We're sticking to the U.S. for budget reasons too. We're actually looking at South Carolina too! We've been looking at Charleston. Anyone have any personal experience with hotels in South Carolina? Good ones, bad ones? We're looking to stay under the $2000-$3000 mark. Looks like there are some nice one there for that price range and the open market sounds neat. My FI is fascinated by the civil war and I like places with a more historical romantic feel to them. We were looking at Kiawah Island but it's looking a little pricy.
We're going to Hawaii---5 hour plane ride is what sold us : ) I didn't want to waste a whole day traveling to get to our destination.
We're sticking to the Pacific NW simply because FI doesn't want to spend all of our honeymoon traveling. We're driving to Seattle and I know FI's parents offered us some of their travel points for the marriot (I think that's the one anyway), but there wasn't one in the same town as the one we were planning, but I might see if we can use them for a hotel in Seattle, because it'd save us about $500.
We are doing a B&B bike tour in Vermont. I'm doing enough flying for work and wanted to stay within driving distance. :-)
We are cashing in on the JetBlue sale (until March 23rd) to San Francisco for $39 each way (from LA)! Renting a car and going to Napa Valley. If anyone has any recommendations let me know! We both haven't been!

ok, so we've been throwing around a lot of ideas as far as our honeymoon goes...I'd always envisioned going to the carribean (i've been there once before - Belize, the summer before I met my husband..) he's never been - but he HAS traveled the US a lot (as have I)...
we should be expecting a good tax return and my bonus will be here in a few months and we kept saying we'd use THAT to pay for our honeymoon - good plan. :)
however. we know that we have a little bit of debt to pay off and we are really tightening down to pay it off. i just feel way too irresponsible to use that to pay for a couple of grand on a honeymoon when it could go towards OTHER things...so we've discussed it and we have decided instead to go to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I've been there once (when I was 7) and he's never been - plus there's the hard rock amusement park (and we both LOVE amusement parks!) there.
we also might have a time share through my uncle (more savings!)
so - anyone else planning their honemoon inside the US?
