If the dress has never been pressed professionally, there really is no substitute for having them do it.
If it has been pressed somewhere along the line already, then you can definitely steam it yourself (the success of which depends on the fabric).
Here's a recent thread with some tips on how to do that:

Good luck!

I went for my first fitting yesterday and was floored when the shop manager told me that to have the dress cleaned and steamed/pressed before the wedding would be $225! Just another hidden expense that I was never informed of in the beginning (slightly annoyed with the store manager, but that would be a whole other post).
My first thought is that the dress has been in a bag, why the hell does it need to be "cleaned"?
Now, the dress is a bit wrinkled from being in the bag. Has anyone ever steamed their own wedding dress? I am fairly knowledgable of fabrics and what can and can't be done to them. I am fairly confident that i can doing a light steaming of the dress. However, there is the tiny part in my mind that thinks "What if I f-up my dress?!".
I am on a tight budget and the costs have already exploded for the wedding. It is pretty much impossible to squeeze out anymore money! So, it looks like I may be a wrinkled bride!
